Good going.
Awesome rock - love the detail.
Consider adding a mountain page for it on Summitpost.org, as one doesn't exist yet. Tehipite still isn't there either.
Did you climb any other existing routes?

We did. Right after doing "Far Out" we simuled up the West Face, we were tryin to do another new route but I think what we were on had already been done or at least parts of it. The rest of the formation other than the north face is a sea of chickenheads, you can sling'em and in some cases thread wires through them. So rad , I love Kings Canyon!

Has anybody here on ST been here? EC Joe or any of the other southern sierra climbers?

EC and I were planning to go out there a few seasons ago but never did -- too much snow when we had the time off for it. As far as I know, EC has never been out to the Obelisk.

Thanks Fluoride, I too am gettin psyched on heading back out to the Southern Sierra. One place I've really wanted to go to is Castle Rock Spire. You never know though, remember that late storm that dumped tons of snow last year and flooded the Valley, I hope we dont see a repeat of that this year.

I never visit summit post, but i just went there and read some of the postings, which reminded me of a time a buddy and I went to Lodgepole in the winter and took the south road outta Kings Canyon and on the drive out we saw Castle Rock Spire and the other formations around it. If I remember correctly there wasnt much snow around and it looked like it wouldnt be too bad to head out there during the winter time. Does anyone know what it looks like at the moment. How much snow is at the base and on the approach. I might just quit my job early and head out there.

I climbed the Obelisk a few years back. I thought that this chunk of rock was good quality and located in a nice setting, but the hike was too long ever do again. It reminded of church dome.

Kings Canyon rocks! Nice route Lucho! And nice meeting you a couple of weeks ago at Mt. Diablo ( my girlfriend was doing the bolt ladder aid practice next to you ).
Come check out the Kings Canyon stuff at Summitpost and add some beta.
