Been hiking to the summit of Woodson a lot lately carrying a crash pad and backpack full o' water and other crap. Then I do as many climbs as I can fit in. I'm trying to do that about three times per week! Feeling pretty damn good about it!!

Man, have I gotten behind in my reportage!
2 Back to back 100 mile weeks in September, a 41 mile day on the three day week end, probably averaging around 70 miles/ week. Mostly bike but running also.
I'll add it up in the next few days.
This week I've done after work bike rides every day. Much of it scary for me, over my head mtn bike riding on slick rock, those rock stars make it look so effortless! I have to straighten a deraileur hanger tomorrow after my trail run.
Today I got in some bouldering, easy biking, and then some bold yet daring 5.5 & 5.6 solo action. Life is good!

Ran a gnarly 5k at the course I first raced on in 1979. Went to view the course records board at the finish. Discover an old running partner, Katy, ran for Ireland in the flippin' 1996 Olympics!!! Placed 26th in the 5k.
Here's some shots of the course and of my favorite sandwich shop nearby.

The elliptical came this morning. . . . IT IS BEAUTIFUL.
The dads spaced out bringing the manuals, though. . . so my first jaunt was just me messing around on it. . . I just got off the phone with Life Fitness and they sent me a PDF of the manual. . . just printed it. . . and I'm off to the shop to play with it some more.
I've wanted one of these for FIVE YEARS and I finally pulled the trigger.
BITCHEN KITCHEN!

eKat - we call that essential - don't deny yourself essential gear!!
Been focused on weekend climbing to the detriment of aerobic activity. However, I think I should get some points for dragging the heavy rack, all the draws, food and water while my husband carried just the rope. Managed to keep up on 1 hour approaches despite the heavier load and the shorter legs.
Diligently running every weekday. Delighted to be at racing weight. I volunteered at the Volcanic50 a couple of weeks ago. I didn't find out about it until it was already full and closed. I am putting it out there right now - I will do that ultra next year. It takes the Loowit around St. Helens. I've hiked it in a day many times. Running it AND having a couple of aid stations is very appealing. Could they possibly have the same perfect weather next year?
Volunteering had its challenges. The trail into aid station 2 is heavily used by mountain bikers. Yikes - had to paste myself on the side of the trail a few times to get out of the way. I took a lot of supplies up there, and then had to go out to a distressed participant. Managed to feed and water him, and then take him off the course. I was planning on a 10 mile day up and down from the aid station. Ended up with 20 miles carrying that load.
It is nice to be in decent shape - and not have to qualify it as "for my age" at the moment!!!

OK. . . it came. . . it's beautiful. . . strong. . . smooth. . . bitchen. . . I, on the other hand. . . not so much!
WHOA.
I'm in terrible shape. Teach me to go sit on a sailboat day in and day out, eh?
I used to ride that one at the belly-up gym for an HOUR. . . I did 15 mins yesterday (before reading the manual) and was pooped. . . went and read the manual and did 30 mins. . . the first 5 of which were nigh on impossible. . . I did finally warm up. . . but. . . in the words of Karen Carpenter:
"It's gonna take some time this time. . . to get myself in shape!"
FAK.
I wrote and told Blanchard the above and his reply was:
Cool. I'm glad it's a good solid machine.
And.... if you could just hop on the thing and "CRANK", then you wouldn't really need it would you?
HA.
Ever the pragmatist!
