The original "spirit" comes from the Latin, spirare, to breathe. Simple as that. Only religions muck up this fine word.
John 4:23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
People are being butchered or otherwise pissed upon from the very great height of religious tribal superiority and the only thing you think is worth talking about is some esoteric mumbo jumbo like a bunch of half baked scientologists!
Get back on topic retards. Its Religion, Politics and science
Gobe you and Spider should get together and hold a seance or something!
edit: In the case of at least some of you - probably fully baked!
Skill testing question: Which prophet in the following clip is Werner?
heh - good one Werner. I'm over opinionated. Jesus I guess I'll just have to spend a few hours figuring out that one.
Anyway you should talk. My evidence is that clap trap you posted at the top of the page. You want to go on about summon bonum, meaning I assume that "ultimate good" or what ever is attained by ruminating on the infinity of the spirit or some sh#t..... meanwhile the physical realities of this world, not the next one are most certainly something to consider when someone shoves a gun in your mouth!
Its not that complicated. Really. Even if you want it to be.
forgive me werner (or Go-b, whatever...) for I have sinned. I stand before you head bowed and remorseful. Woe be me who mocks the great blue yonder which is beyond my pathetic materialist comprehension and low brow third rate impulses. My sinful humor leads me astray from the path of certain enlightenment.
Until Our entire "Culture"(or lack thereof) recognizes that it's built on a House of Lies, we're all doomed. How many Standards are there? And for whom?
Huh?
Truth isn't pleasant, unless you're True.
Shouldn't you be using your holy hand grenade against your scurilous dog blasphemer Christian Evangelist breatheren spreading their evil over in Uganda?
His testimony surrounds all of us throughout the Universe. There is no excuse.
Psalm 14:1 (KJV Cambridge Ed.)
"<A Psalm of David.>> The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good."
1 Corinthians 3:19 (KJV Cambridge Ed.)
"For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness."
Romans 1:20 (KJV Cambridge Ed.)
"For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:"
Possibly belief systems come about because we take as reality the stream of action potentials generated in our nervous systems. To some degree people live in their heads. Consciousness, I claim, is the ongoing expectation the present moment will be followed by yet another. Death is a serious violation of that expectation and thus becomes the impetus for some sort of adaptive strategy. The idea of life after death.
Besides causing humans to be quite poor long term planners but good rock climbers, our absorption with the present moment also causes us to have little ability to understand time. Very long times, surely. Wide acceptance of the belief the earth was created only 6000 years ago is compelling evidence for that failing. The argument that evolution is belied by our failure ever to see any monkeys in the process of turning into a human probably does not arise from this failing, however. More likely some other failing possessed by the speaker. :-)
By nature we seem unable to perceive time. If we take our lifetime of 100 years and compress it into a single clock tick, our specie which has been around for approximately 100,000 years - amounts to a little over 15 minutes. Neanderthals lived for some 400,000 years before they died out. They were around for an hour. Recent evidence suggests fire has been used for some 1,000,000 years. Ten times longer than the 15 minutes or so we the most recent homo sapiens, have been around. Two and a half hours.
If 100 years is compressed into one second.
Our belief systems may be just strategies we pursue in order to live with failures hard wired into us during the time we evolved from the fishes. Like the incredibly poorly designed structures in our ears. Even like the technical analyses we employ to make us feel better when we buy stocks. We still don't know what the heck is going to happen. But we feel better.
Perhaps all we need do is to sh#t can our need to feel better?
