Wednesday February 9th at Planet Granite Sunnyvale at 7.30pm we're having a fundraiser to Unlock Jailhouse, a cliff near Sonora, CA. Jim Thornburg will show some of his amazing slides of climbing all over the world. Ron Kauk will give a short talk and show portions of Return to Balance: A Climber's Journey. We'll be auctioning off many thousands of dollars worth of climbing gear--- a very large amount of pretty amazing schwag. Suggested donation at the door is $10, and all proceeds go to preserve access to Jailhouse Rock.
Hope you can make it!

Chris Mac is right. Literally many thousands of dollars worth of stuff being auctioned. I will try to post a more complete list in the next few days, but here's a sampling to whet your appetite.
-Ropes. Multiple Manufacturers. 60m and 70m.
-3 night stay in Hans Base Camp in Yosemite West. You choose when in 2011 you want to visit the Valley, and come home to a house after cranking.
-Cool T-shirts from Ihatplastic!
-sweet framed photo from master photog Jerry Dodrill
-magnum of very upscale wine from award-winning Napa Valley winery
-Five annual memberships to Bridges Rock Gym in El Cerrito, and 5 10-punch card passes
-QuickDraw sets from BD
-Your choice of shoes in your size from Evolve
-Multiple sleeping bags from the North Face
-Packs from the North Face and from Organic climbing
-Lifetime subscription to ALL future Wolverine press climbing guides, forever
-Copies of every current Wolverine press guide, Maximus Press guide, Norcal Roadtrip Slater guide, 20 copies of new Columbia Bouldering guide
-Day of guided climbing with Peter Croft
-Day of guided climbing with Dave Bengston, head of Yosemite Mountaineering School
-Day of guided Tahoe climbing with Peter Mayfield
-Coaching session with cross-fit and climbing coach Platinum Rob Miller
-Tons of clothes (jackets, hats, shorts, T-shirts, etc) from MountainHardwear, TNF, BD, Organic, and more

Theres more, but that gives you an idea of some of the stuff. The climbing industry, and many of the SuperTopo community, have been truly generous with cash and non-cash donations. Thanks so much, and hope you can make it. For those who are out of the area, see if you can get someone local to submit a bid for you. Cheers!

Bump.

It's worth mentioning that the Touchstone gyms also made significant contributions to this cause.

Previous poster correctly notes that Touchstone made a very large early donation.
Also for the auction: we'll have 40 heavily discounted lift tickets to a variety of Tahoe ski resorts for sale at the event. Thanks Sports Basement!

Does anyone know a happening place to grab a beer near PG Sunnyvale? We are heading down early to beat traffic and get a bit of climbing in before the show, and could probably use some refreshments...

The closest brewery to PG Sunnyvale is Faultline
http://www.faultlinebrewing.com/

Good beer but the food is kinda pricey.

There is also the Firehouse Brewery in Sunnyvale and the Tied House in Mountain View.

Enjoy!

More stuff that has just come in for the auction and/or prizes for correct answers to Jailhouse trivia questions at the show:
*Bluewater 9.9mm x 60m rope
*Bluewater 9.9mm x 70m rope
*Two Petzl Tikka2 XP headlamps (killer for those in-a-day pushes)
*Two Marmot Trestles sleeping bags
*Petzl women's Elia climbing helmet
*8 containers of ClimbOn hand salve
*a dozen Bluewater T-shirts
*Two custom chalkbags in your favorite fabric, style, monogram, etc
*Marmot Eiger pack
*chalk
*set of holds from SoIll
*Rubber Room resole and T-shirt
*7 assorted chalkbags/pots in great fabrics/patterns from Krieg

Again, if there is stuff that you're interested in, but you're not local or can't make the event, get in touch with someone who's going and have them bid for you on whatever you're interested in. Cheers!

Just realized that I will not be able to make it to this event. Huge bummer. School is ruining my social life.

Bump for this event!!!

For those that may be curious, the image in the flier is Eric Sanchez climbing King Pin, 5.13b.

Got any old core-shot, cut-down ropes in your gear closet? Bring them to the slideshow/auction tomorrow night (7.30pm PG Sunnyvale) and Keen Footwear donates $10 for each cord. Length, size, condition don't matter. They recycle them into new product.

Bump - tell your friends.

You don't have to care about Jailhouse to care about a great slideshow, and a ton of great stuff to bid on - climbing gear, clothing, ski lift tickets...
