Took the pictures for this during a few days this week. The last two scenes were taken last night, up until 2:30 am. It was cold!

JTree sits in a corridor between two restricted airspace areas to both the north and south so the preponderance of air traffic is to be expected. It is the major East, West route.
The pervasive light pollution on the horizon, is that from Laughlin or Palm Springs?

Mike - I used Aperture for this. Photos were taken 1 min apart and replayed at 10 per second.
It is very hard to find a place with no cars driving by, even at 2 am. The first two scenes were taken at the end of Geology Tour Road in Pleasant Valley. The second two were along the Queen Mountain road. The first and third were taken looking toward the NE and yes, and the second and fourth were taken looking toward Palm Springs, and therefore the brighter horizon. These are all 30 second exposures, so the camera can gather a lot of light in that time.

Great job! Lots of work and lack of sleep to capture all of those images! Did you use a laptop to drive the interval exposures or did you man the release the whole time? Great stuff, thanks for sharing!

BrassNuts - I use a 3rd party intervalometer for my Nikon, similar to the one in Ed's link. It allows you to set exposure time, time between exposures, and how many pics you want to take. For example, you can set it for a 30 second exposure, 1 min between exposures and 180 pictures (1 every minute for 3 hours).
Last summer I did one manually at 12000 feet in the Bristlecones. It was cold, and standing next to my tripod I lasted about 45 minutes, which resulted in a 4 second video... I bought an intervalometer as soon as I got home.

DonC - do you have other videos like this to share? Even if they are only 4 seconds, I bet they're cool.

Really nice effect DonC! Kind of like a condensed version of a JT night. What kind of intervalometer did you use?

StahalBro - Nikon does not make an intervalometer for my model, so I use a 3rd party one made by Satechi. It costs around $60.
