Met Dean on Cathedral Peak this past summer after coming off the summit. I spent an hour watching him going back and forth on the line like if he was walking on a street. While I was thinking to myself I would never have the balls to even attempt such a thing, he leaped on top of the pinnacles barefoot, ready to walk the line. My hat goes off to him.

I think Dean is living his life. Should we all be so committed and passionate.

years back,I was having lunch at the deli where Dean was also seating on the table eating so I asked Dean what he thinks of all the recent incident involving base jumpers and he said" I am considering and rethinking jumping since recently too many people on his list got either hurt or died. I was also in the valley when the call came in that afternoon. wasn't a good news.

I shook his hand on Sept 18st 2014 - he was hanging around the bridge while my friend Jon & I were racking up with PTPP for a slow and kind've steady ascent of BttB. It felt kind've silly as Pete wrangled us together mid gear explosion. He assured us both that we'd walk away at least with a handshake...felt like a older relative wanting you to officially meet The Principal (or in this case The Dean) whom was in the midst of shooting the sh#t with the other teachers. Corny as the encounter was it nevertheless was a great pleasure.
He died on my birthday. As sad as it is his passing reminds me every year to live the way I see fit & dream mega big. Huge respect. RIP.

Dean Potter was/is a very special person. He lives on.
Face Lift '09 had plenty of climbers out to celebrate the book, "The Stone Masters, California Rock Climbers in the 70's. I asked Dean to sign mine.
"What should I say," Dean asked, "I'm not really an old school stone master?"
As we talked it became obvious, Dean was keeping alive the Stone Masters. That's how he signed it, Stone Masters, the next Generation. A humble, likable Dude who will Never be forgotten. Cheers.
If I mentioned this before, no matter, it bears repeating.

Hueco. I have this mixed tape that keeps me awake when I drive. Dean takes it back to the Jetta and sits, by himself, cranking 'My Way' by the Pistols over, and over, and over.
