Jack cruised Walt Bailey. His first time doing the tower clean. He cleaned all of the pieces but one stuck one and trust me I put in plenty of pieces. He usually wants a tight rope or get psyched out by the exposure, but today he put it all together and just started climbing one of the best 5.9s at the tower. It may be fun to see where this goes.

Good to see everybody back in casa, safe and sound. I survived another day (too) of construction work high on dangerous ladders and pick-boards, and the crazy boss below.

Finally tromped over to the Washoe Boulders with trusty pooch in tow.

I initially went to the wrong spot, then found the main area. Things were alright, might make some more adventures out there.

The bouldering I got on was suitably crappy to take a picture of:

But the views weren't bad:

Apparently, the area is near where the local gun nuttery pop off some caps, so my gun/explosion shy dog started getting spooked and I called the day a bit early. It was nice to get some casual stuff in though, not too far from home.

edit: For a serious laugh, I went to rockclimbing.com to read more about the Washoe boulders and there is a really good write-up (anonymously posted?) of the area:

Rusted out car frames, flea-ridden fixed mattresses, shotgun shells, domestic violence, broken glass and the steady pop-pop-pop of small arms fire ahhh, Nevada. If you make it past the casinos in downtown Carson City with enough money left to buy chalk, then youre probably ok, and youll love the bouldering. There isnt a speck of granite worth pulling on for ten miles in any direction, which is great. After too many days in the basin, it feels good to grab some pocketed volcanic stone instead of cerebral Sierra granite. Goni rewards power and a high pain threshold - the pockets and edges here are really sharp, so taping ahead of time might give you a shot at climbing here two days in a row, but no guarantees. The backdrop of a massive, black cinder mine completes the surreal, industrial vibe and makes the Goni experience a cultural event as well as a good pump a chance to observe the American Redneck in his native habitat.

Hahaha... the American Redneck in his native habitat indeed! F'in NEVADA!!!

One easy old man problem at the flattop boulder, away from all the other boulders at big bend boulders.
