What I want isn't necessarily a haul bag, I'll be cragging, but kind of a haul sack- something I can carry inside my regular backpack, but take out and then put in my drill, or a camera in it to haul up a cliff. I'm thinking of a simple design... no buckles or shoulder straps. It's just for hauling up.
round durathane bottom, cinch cordura top, durathane body with one haul loop.
About 18" x 10".
The sentinel by Metolious is more of a back pack, way more than I want. I just want to haul my bigger SLR camera, or my drill and bolt gear. Stuff I don't really want to climb up with, nor do I want to carry a back pack.
Any specialty makers out there?

Oh! I wish I could take you forward to late winter/next Spring when a nice little announcement comes out of the bag.
So strange that this topic (a short climb "haulbag") was a point of discussion on Tuesday during a Skype video conference call.
Shut up Simon.

FISH also has Beef Bags on that page that might just be the ticket.
I have a few and they are the sh#t.
Russ could add an actual haul loop for you easily.
Send him an email.

Russ's Beef bags are awesome for hauling crap up and down walls, but his largest is a tad too small for a full sized drill.
Although it's not nearly as solid or protective as The Fish stuff, Metolius makes a larger one that I used for the drill, everything else was stuffed into a beef bag. I asked Russ to make a larger one for me for the drill but it never got going and now I'm done bolting (hopefully).

The Beef bags are better than the Metolius bags for dragging up a cliff. The Beef bags won't last too, too long with hard stuff in them though.

yeah, I measured my drill... a tad too small... would be perfect at 18" tall.
Do you have alink for the Metolius ones?
I'll line it with some light padding if I put in a drill. My camera will already be in a padded bag.

Perhaps a dry bag might be what you are looking for.
Beefy exterior and they come in all shapes and sizes.
