Eric Bjornstad interviewed Charlie Fowler right after the first ascent of Zenyatta Entrada.
Eric sent me a copy of this interview after Charlie died, hoping that maybe it could get published, or somehow made available to a wider audience.
So here it is. Enjoy.

I think I have commented on Charlie at least once before, so I apologize for the repetition, But he more than merits the attention.
Wherever you go you find these great youngsters who love something totally. I am not sure it is the climbing they love so much as it is the just being alive. Climbing is certainly one of the many things you can't do when dead.
It always helps to be this interested in at least two things. That way at least one thing in your life is always "working" and you always have options. I can't say this was a problem for Charlie. It probably was not. My wondering is only a reflection of the need for us to do all we can to keep both people and their dreams alive as long as possible.
We miss Charlie.

Thanks for the nice comments.
Credit should go to Eric Bjornstad, who recognized the talent and originality and did this interview, but never was able to get it published or printed anywhere.

I missed this interview first time around.
Thanks so much for a great read; especially since I learned a lot more about Charlie.
Back in 1975, my wife and I were on a long road trip, having just been married. I met Charlie at the Teton climbers ranch, and managed to convince him and Mike Munger to meet up with us in the Wind Rivers.
I raved to Charlie about a great line, waiting for a 1st ascent. We ended up doing the Golden Dihedral route, on Ambush Peak, and I was quite impressed
with the young Charlie Fowler. The route goes up the right hand skyline.

What a great interview! Thanks for sharing this Crusher . . . Charlie never talked about his past accomplishments, so it is refreshing to see him open up here. Charlie deserves a lot of respect for living in the moment, no ego, no pretense, just a genuine person with an incredible alpine pedigree. He set a great example of what it means to be fully human.
