Hi John,

I am assuming that you are posting up. We need more old guys on ST that actually still climb. Some of these young whipper snappers are starting to draw the distinction between "I used to climb." and "I climb." Depressing.

BTW, if I tried your shoes, would they make my hair brown, my waist smaller than my ass, and put me on the sharp end of 5.10+? I'd pay mucho for the make over.

Cheers, Roger

Mr President, sir

I think what he was really saying, is he may know Reardon better than most of you. He said he actually climbed with him so he has first hand knowledge of his abilities.

If you know Bachar you would know he would say the same thing about Reardon regardless of who’s shoes were on his feet…

I would think? if someone were to risk so much they would want to climb in the best shoe they could.

For the record Sir, I don't know Reardon but John is my friend and I have no financial reason to post this.

Requesting your resignation sir

Mr. Gramicci, I feel your pain. However, I was lobbing a preemptive strike(I am good at that) to head off what inevitably will be said about Johns defense of Michael. Just getting the comment out of the way at the beginning. I will not resign until I have brought liberalism to its knees and taken over the world's oil supplies.

Rajmit, nobody in MA voted for me, so I know you are a liar. If you will check the Reardon thread, I spelled Dude correctly there. In this thread, I was just trying to fit in with the average idiot climber that can't spell.

Welcome John!

Don't want this to sound like hero worship or anything ... I just have a great respect for everything you've accomplished.

I've never met you, but the month/year I started climbing ('86), the first climbing mag I bought had your interview in it. Being an impressionable young man, looking at those pics and reading the interview/article ended up defining what climbing was (and still is) to me (the mag is carefully nestled in my bookcase to this day). I greatly respect your accomplishments (at least what I understand them to be). I still have my favorite climbing picture, of Shultz on the Bachar Yerian from an early Grammicci/Sole Survivor calendar, hanging on my wall at home (much to my wife's chagrin). It as well as your legacy of accomplishments continues to provide motivation for me to get out on the rock regularly.

Thank you for showing me and the world the possibilities!

Hope to meet you someday and get your autograph.

Anyway, enough sappiness...

Enjoy!

P.S. Michael Reardon's film spotlighting you is something deserved and long overdue. I look forward to viewing the film!

Werner, I know it too, as I was one of the riggers setting up Bachar and the cameramen for the shots. Remember the time we set up Separate Reality, the light was good and everything was set--then Union lunchtime required the full buffet on the road and by the time it was over we lost the light?

THen of course there was the three day El Cap swing rig that resulted in about a 1.5 second shot for the commercial.

Yeah Klaus it's pretty lame when people have heros that inspire them.

By providing a concrete example of an individual struggling against overwealming odds, heros help give us the power, and will to believe in our own goals, in purposes, in achievement and in the joy of living.

It has been brought to my attention that faulty intelligence has led us to believe that John Bachar was actually participating in this forum. This faulty intelligence directly led to the sickening lovefest that we now see. Knowing that the intelligence was not genuine, we are face with a decision. Do we cut and run? Or do we stay the course and continue to act as if it is really John? I feel it is in our best interests to stay the course.

He was disciplined about practicing anyway. Now you can't practice a saxophone in a women's dormatory (or in your van parked outside) without making some noise, and it's not exactly the ideal solo instrument either. His practice sessions were infamous amoung some locals.

A number of years later I heard him play in a local band at a traditional Tuolumne Meadows closing party and he sounded great.
