Great interview! Make it bigger next time, Steve. I can hardly read that. It was worth the eyestrain, though.

I met Jim Bridwell at Emerald Lake, in Rocky Mountain National Park, in 1973, I think. He was, that summer, doing a recreational stint at Mike Covington's climbing school, which was based out of Steve Komito's boot shop in Estes Park. Duncan Ferguson, and Doug Snively, and Billy Westbay, (and maybe Earl Wiggins, though I think he didn't work there until 1976) were also in Estes then, working at the climbing school, if I have the year right... maybe 1974, but no later than that. I was just going up to do Jackson-Johnson or Northcutt-Carter with a friend, on Hallet, and he happened to be bagging rays at the lake with another guy, whose name I can't remember... maybe Jim Pettigrew? But he was very supportive and encouraging and friendly, even though I and my partner were obviously not world-class climbers at all... Jim Bridwell was a nice guy, in my memory, though I obviously didn't know him, really.

Was lucky enough to meet Bridwell a couple of months ago. Spoke to him for a couple of hours and he left quite the impression. I feel extremely fortunate to be able to speak to such a legend as him. I will forever cherish that memory.
