Never liked his stuff myself,
granted he had some great musicians back him over the years, (Ronson,Frampton,SRV)
but he made teenage girls ga-ga's get wet in the mid 70's though.
I'm not into his fashion, but he has a lot of good songs. I was very briefly in a David Bowie cover band, having a lot of fun, quit mainly because of the rush-hour drive across the bay bridge from Berkeley to SF.
Largo, speaking of David Bowie, what happened to that killer avatar of the girl barfing coloured tinsel?
Way better than the current carabiner.
Cheers, PB
I remember seeing Bowie on television when I was pretty young, maybe 9 or 10 years old. It must have been, because I know I owned his Hunky Dory album when I was in 5th grade, when I would have been 11.
He was performing "1984" and the dancers would writhe about and then move into formations and create the numbers with their bodies. I was utterly BLOWN away. I wouldn't say the winds were raging at 80MPH, but the effect on my imagination was that it was "blown pretty hard!"(reference is to the Wind Speed Quotation thread)
Always have loved, loved, LOVED Bowie's music. Just SO many incredible pieces I couldn't say which would be my favorite. Maybe Heros, Ashes to Ashes, Changes, Queen Bitch, Under Pressure. I just don't know.
