^^^ Thanks, Walleye!

Today was the day I got my mando shipped to me via overnight mail. I had to wait four hours to open the case, as the weather in Iowa is way colder than Seattle.

Here are some pics of the final product, and man...does this thing sound sweet!

It started like this...

Looks like we have to come over to your place, crank a few laps on the wall, and then listen to you do some picking.

Anyone STers gonna be at Wintergrass? I'll be there. Let me know, and maybe we can grab a beer and a jam!

Meanwhile...off to a WA State Park for a little teardrop trailer camping with my sweet wife this weekend. Probably just gonna bring the banjo.

Tom,

Planning to be at Wintergrass for the 18th time in twenty years.
Celebrating the big 60 this time.
Look forward to seeing you and picking a few.

Current jam buster projects.

John Wilkes Booth (Chaplin-Carpenter, Rice)
Never Meant To Be (Rice)
1901 Canyon Odyessey (Infamous Stringdusters)

PS

The Stringdusters Gravity album is very excellent and unique in that they chose not to replace their former mando player Jesse Cobb and still maintain the "forward leaning" rhythmic "drive" that defines real bluegrass.
Perfect examples of the other instruments taking up the slack to maintain the offbeat chop.

The songwriting is phenomenal.

Canyon Odyseey is about the first guys to navigate the Black Canyon of the Gunnisson by boat to survey for the diversion to irrigate the Uncomphagre Valley.

Black Elk is a rhythmic masterpiece that reminds us of his vision and the cultural genocide of North America's First Nations.

Very cool, Perry! Looking forward to seeing you, and the 60 thing is true for me, as well.

I'll check out the tunes you listed below.

Cheers,

Tom

Looking forward to Wintergrass, which starts today!

Also, my wife and I had a great time touring the Deering Banjo factory in Spring Valley, CA this past Tuesday. Got to see where my banjo was born...

Wintergrass was fantastic this year, for the jamming scene. Got into so many good ones!

I also asked Chris Henry (mando player for Peter Rowan, and considered the "premier Monroe stylist of his generation") to take my new Hinde mando for a few laps, and he graciously obliged.

Dang...

For some reason, the usual technique doesn't seem to be working, so I just posted the link which does work.

For anyone in the N. Lake Tahoe/Truckee area, you might be interested in joining the fortnightly jam at the Truckee Alibi, 1st and 3rd Mondays each month. It usually starts out with fiddle tunes and straight-ahead bluegrass, and then slowly branches out/devolves into whatever. We landed on a bunch of Talking Heads covers last time.
