My favorite thread, since obviously my product(s) aid in the postings.
True story; I attended Michigan State University BITD. A friend and I were out and about at 10:00 pm; we were waiting for a bus in the dark when overhead a round luminous object appeared. It circled around and we watched it trying to figure out what it was. We were both science nerds but couldn't come up with an explanation. Finally I suggested it was actually a UFO. We decided that was the only answer for what we saw. Bravely we both decided to stay and greet our alien visitors; this was a real decision and brave in my opinion, as we thought this was the real thing. We waited for it to land and then finally .......... realized it was a carbon arc spotlight shining on the bottom of clouds.
Klimmer, if that's you please post endless youtube videos......... and tell us how that date with your daughter went.

It is safe to say that we are all doomed to have our world view upset at some point. And there is an understandable inclination to reject and ridicule information that threatens one's world view.
Scientists are not doing their job on this subject of UFO sightings and alien abductions. Insisting on not knowing and not learning is very inappropriate for scientists. No excuses or rationalizations are appropriate for intentional ignorance.
This subject is not going away just because some ignorant people ridicule the beliefs and experiences of others. Such ignorance is extremely dangerous for all of us.
This is an important subject whether or not we are being visited by aliens. There are major implications for us either way.
If people are deluded about this subject of UFOs and aliens, then it is a delusion that affects people all over the planet in large numbers, even those with no access to modern communication tools and with no other access to information about the subject. At the very least neurophysiologists should be absolutely fascinated by the commonality of these unusual perceptual phenomena.
If you don't take the time to do your homework, then you are acting unwise by commenting and are just showcasing your ignorance.

I am prompted to ask a question. How would one go about scientifically testing the hypothesis that aliens are visiting this planet? Don't miss the fact eye witness testimony is unreliable. Please note Neil Tyson's suggestion those abducted need to bring back an alien ash tray if they can.
Try this as an example.
If aliens were here they would possibly have carried with them life forms that were not close copies of our earth based DNA. There has, as yet, been no such discovery. Search as we might, so far. As DNA technology advances and tests increase in number, our confidence that no such exists gains statistical support. Imagine, if you will, the scientific response to such a discovery. That scientific search is going on, as we type.
Now you might ask that fighter jets be scrambled any time someone reports unexplained atmospheric light. There are numerous physical mechanisms that produce such phenomena. The night I was bivying on the Tofana I saw balls of fire and heard buzzing most of the night. Physical motion of the air readily causes it to become ionized. So what new data would a pilot produce? Any space ship a jet could catch is likely unable even to reach the earth.

jstan, i have a lot of respect for your knowledge and intelligence, but you clearly haven't done your homework on this subject
i occasionally try to direct people on this forum to various information sources, but the feedback here tends to be from people who don't bother spending the time looking into it
this is no longer a naive immature area of study and insider stories have been broadly released by many people now retired from secret military/industrial programs
granted the deluge of available material seems overwhelming, but the attempted cover ups and disinformation seem to be running out of steam as many people become better educated
there are published authoritative professionals who have devoted much of their lives to working with this material and you can read their reports and listen to their lectures and interviews
however the subject is still tabu for professionals hoping to maintain their careers and funding,so you have to be willing to think a little bit outside the controlled information sources
no one can claim any longer that they haven't been informed, just that they haven't listened
