It is indeed Craig Childs, he has written extensivley on the American Southwest and is a climber too. I've read all of his books, highly recommend. And pleasantly surprised he was picked for this. :D

Wish I could go to this! Anyone on the eastside going that has room for me?

You are ALL wrong. (I know both).

I shared a site in C4 with Greg Ghilds.

I shared a night in a snow cave with Geoff Childes (and Steve Mullen. And walking out the next day we ran into Jeff Long, not John Long)

EDIT
but now that I see the photo, that's not him. WTF??

Craig Childs, who won the award, writes about nature and has a website: houseofrain.com

Greg Child (no s) wrote Mixed Emotions and Postcards from the Ledge and did few 8000 meter peaks.

Geoff Childs, also a climber, wrote Stone Palaces.

And there's another Geoff Childs who is a Tibetan scholar.

How long has it been since he was called The Kloeberdanz Kid?

Interesting how the route got its name.

thanks for everyone who made it! The Breashears himalayan photos of glaciers now compared to early 1900's were incedible... and scary. He had a really cool gigapan of everest that I hope he will make public. if he has not already... anyone know if there is a link to it?
