This road was taken out in a storm. Then they built the one we know today. This is the Rincon Hwy north of Ventura Ca.

Edge, gud one! Those damned Slap-tailed River Rats!

So we had 'gone up the river' in Alaska. Found us a real nice sand bar
and started to set up camp. After getting the tent up and the beer safely
arranged in the river we took a little walk. The nearest tree just above
us on the bank was a huge Cottonwood - at least 3' in diameter. The damned
rats had chewed through all but about 8"! God knows what was holding it up!
I proclaimed, "No way I'm sleeping here tonight with this still standing.
The odds might be in our favor but just in case ol' Murphy snuck into one
of the river bags that Cottonwood is coming down." And down it went after
very few wacks.

I well understand being deprived of the satisfaction of the felling but was
it really necessary for those guys to spend the whole night slapping
their tails on the water just yards from our tent?
