Recently my friend Stacy was diagnosed with breast cancer and is going to have to have a mastectomy. She is only 42 and fit and is looking for other women that have been through or are going through a similar experience.

Don't know of any specifically for breast cancer, but there is the very well organized HERA Climb for Life group that for ovarian cancer. I'm sure that would be a good resource.

I would suggest an online search. There are likely several options for support groups in your/her area. There's more support out there than you realize...

September is Ovaian Cancer Awareness month. I was DX four years ago this month. Finished chemo three years ago. Been in remission ever since.
Lots of cancer stories on this forum.
Keep vigilant about your checkups....early detection is important.

My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in her 50s and lived a robust life thereafter until she was 91. Tell your friend to keep the faith.

My wife has been battling it for 10 years now. She's doing great. Her staging was Stage 3 T4. Of all the fun that comes with cancer, the ultimate medicine is her attitude.
Check out the Susan G. Coleman Foundation. A great source of info.
The best support she can get is from her friends and family.
EDIT:
One other valuable piece of advice is someone needs to step up and handle all the administrative issues. She's going to be dealing with enough. Someone really needs to handle all the nonsense of making sure medical records end up at the appropriate Dr's office BEFORE appointments. The insurance nightmare alone will be crippling and overwhelming for her.
Make very sure when ever she gets a scan (CT/PET/MRI) that those records end up in her possession. They provide them now on CD. My wife and I drove for 3 hours to meet with the surgeon only to find out the scans never got to his office. Wasted trip.
The American Cancer Association has a program that will partially reimburse gas expenses.
