The #1 wife insisted on opening a 2012 Justin Cab. All I could think of
was how good it would have been in another year or two, not that it wasn't
quite palatable now, especially after some 'breathing'.

Tami! Re your post:

City of Rox ?! Thanks Spidey fer the invite but will prolly not appear. I tend not to leave Canada. Last time was '08 :-D

No problem! Would you just take Idontno in as part of the new empire of BC?

Then City of Rocks would be a warm, sunny, holiday for you, with your people!

I'm ready to join!

as are all of us in need of a decent health care system.

Happy 4th of Joo-lah you-all U-Hauls.

Ah am headin to the park to watch the fahr-works. The You Ess Marine Corp band is gonna be there. Any bets they won't play John Philip Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever?

Might have to crack open a Calaveras County Barbera smuggled to the park.

Oh, yeah, it's Friday! Independence Day and I'm gonna exercise my government sanctioned right to imbibe an alcoholic beverage!

Cheers, folks!

Geez, they even have SIGNS at the park that say, "no alcohol". There isn't any alcohol in wine, is there?

I doubt it.

I have polished off most of a bottle of Wente Riva Ridge Chardonnay, a superb oaky Chard with a nice buttery finish. Mike Stonewalker and I discovered it right at the winery in Livermore last fall on the way to the Ditch. With more than a little bit of salesmanship, and no small amount of BS, I managed to procure a bottle at the Wine Club price of $18 instead of the retail price of $22.

Imagine my angst when I discovered the SAME BOTTLE at Trader Joe's - only half an hour later - for $14.99???!!!! Geeeez.....

Anyway, that's where this bottle came from. Yum yum. Along with my $12 Eisch Breathable Glass picked up from Casto Winery's tasting room in Mariposa, highly recommeded if you're coming into the Valley from Merced.

Woo-hoo! Bring on the Marines. I am a trombone player, and a Merrican, you know. But I have never played Stars and Stripes Forever. [I almost wrote Stars and Strips Forever, sheesh] One day, one day, it's on my bucket list!

Pete! I'm happy for your Marine band tunes------& sorry you have to sneak wine into our park.

Heidi drove me up to the local (Bliss) fireworks tonight. It was great except we were swarmed with mosquitoes.

Such is life in Idaho.

That's why we drink.

Sluuuuurp.

1.Two sips and an ahi sammich into the evening, awaiting the Glentucky Funkdown and its middle finger-missing mandolin player of magic, the homedaddy master-mason.
2.I will defecate on the lawn/doorstep/face, as well as fart in the general direction of the individual that did this, 2 feet off the ground (couldn't be bothered to BUILD an anchor, 'spose).3.Getting ready for the Maroon Bells traverse by getting bammerhammered

It appears I got a bit over-eager in my wine buying, so I have to get rid of at least one or two bottles before I fly home.

Drinking one of Harold Casto's bottles of Zinfandel. His wine tasting room is right in Mariposa, not two miles from my storage locker.

This Zinfandel - which cost me somewhere around fifteen bucks - is lightyears better than ANY wine I tasted in Temecula the other day. Temecula is incredibly overpriced for the quality of wines it offers.

Your Dr. Piton Big Wall Wine Tip of the Day:

Stay TF away from Temecula. Don't even waste your time. Twelve to fifteen bucks for wine tasting, a fee which is knott waived even if you buy the wine? Are you freaking kidding me?? GTFO of Temecula.

Ring-a-ding, Brave Cowboy! Payback time in the a.m.
I went out to the river today. There were wild grape vines hanging. Nothing to do but drink in the vibes of the river.

"And the river keeps on talking, but you never hear a word it says."

Just finished some Peace Tea at 1:30 this aft. the Rev shows up.

Lunch at La Cotija with the Rev, one Bud.

Gas-up the truck at the cheapest place for miles for the Rev and I can go cruising out to Merced Falls, one Bud chelata 24.

Run-in with the Rev at New China Cafe after he'd dropped me off and I was heading to the Gas 'N' Save to get more liquid refreshment, one Tsingtao to celebrate lucky meetings.

Two Speakeasy Payback porters going down slow the rest of the night.
Pax.

I am so over PinkBits being amusing-----only to itself.

It just helped a significant ST Trip-report become a snipe-fest.

Burchey/The Hawk and Matt are a sniping combo....

If both of you posted climbing only, we'd have high quality content.

Matt, you have some great photos and climbing that you've shared. Give us the mountain stories and pics... skip some of that other stuff... you seem to want to be here :-)

Oh geez, there's a post from Anita - my metal-detector just went off!

It's Fer-RYE-day!! Yay! No rye here, at least not yet. But some Sleeman's Bock beer. Brewed in Guelph, you know.
