So I'm a few days early (or a few days late) but I have a bunch of awful busywork for school to grind through before I take off to Yosemite for spring break tomorrow night, and I'm afraid that my sixer of Modelo won't last and I'll have to break into the case of Olympia I bought for the trip. I didn't even know they still made Olympia until I stumbled into it today (they also had Hamm's!)

Starting out with a lovely oak aged Tempranillo from Mendoza, Argentina. Very nice!
OK, so I am finally doing it - I am going caving in Huautla, Mexico!
Arguably the world's most spectacular cave system, 1500+ metres deep, scores of shafts and waterfalls, caving at its finest.
Always wanted to go, we are resuming explorations after a decades-long hiatus. All the focus back then had been on diving and connecting the systems and increasing the depth from the bottom down.
Well, it just so happens we have a number of recently discovered but unexplored entrances... will they connect?
Perhaps in a few weeks, your very own Dr. Piton will have some answers. I fly to Mexico City a week tonight, so with any luck next week I will be posting from a cantina down in Mexico.

PTPP! I'm sorry that you have to go explore those caves in far away places, but I will share a sympathy drink for you.
I tested an Idaho Tempranillo tonight. Smooth and it does the job, but not like the better Dago Tempranillos, and nothing like drinking with the locals in Madrid!

I had a Virgin Margarita tonight. I don't know if that's supposed to be capitalized but PTPP is a stickler for proper capitalization and it's his thread, so I'm taking no chances.
Anyway, VMs don't taste all that good.
On the plus side I DID go climbing today, woo-hoo! And I'm going tomorrow again.
Now got to go ice that shoulder...

I have this wierd vodka that comes in a glass skull. Kinda watery. Some nice dry Vermouth. Looking forward to the results.
Apparently the Banff Film Festival reel left some of my friends longing for some "real" climbing films. We need Tom Cochran back in the game. Nothing really good since "Solo."
Maybe some top roping this weekend. Gym perhaps if it's raining. So expensive!

Pete, just watched 'No Place On Earth' about the Ukrainian Jews who hid for a year and a half in a cave. You should see it. A caver, Chris Nichola, from New York went to Ukraine to
explore his roots and do a little caving. He found household items way down in this cave and said to himself "WTF?". Nine years of unrequited research later he got lucky and this film came about.
BTW, in the Special Features are some shorts of his other caving adventures like some really
long free rappel through a LARGE FREAKING WATERFALL! Yous guys are NUTS!

That's awesome. I'm about a third of the way through "Blind Descent", which covers some of those expeditions. I'll be keeping an eye out for any updates on how these new explorations are going.

Truckee's Dragonfly Restaurant is having a closing booze bash tonight. Billy the owner is a climber and local hero. The password for free booze is " Jerry Lives". So I'm into it as follows; margarita, beer, black label x 2 and then a bullit of rye was passed. Luckily, we walk home from the bar. I love Sriracha.

Couple bottles of Zin after a hard spring day whipping the Ranchette into somewhat better, as opposed to lesser, shape.
Windy as California here this weekend.
Harley (the cat) had a big climbing day.
He ran up our old Peach tree without a pause, then spent a half-hour up there pretending he was enjoying the experience.
The downclimb started headfirst, then entailed a 180 degree flip-over and deep-claw sink for a cat butt-first back-down.
Wish I could climb like him!
