The one comment I'll make about ratings is that they should be flexible and subject to revision by consensus after the climb has seen a number of ascents. Keeping a rating, that is clearly wrong, becuase of the ego or ignorance of the first ascentionists makes no sense.

We had plenty of comparatively underrated routes around Tucson simply because we collectively hadn't spent enough time climbing in the land of the YDS. Most of our routes were off by a solid number grade and it really bruised lots of egos among visiting climbers. It took a long time to even it out.
