If I remember correctly (a big if), Dave's Dreadful Death-Defying Dive wasn't shown in the eventual 'national unity' ad, but there was a aerial panning shot of the group on the summit of Mount Rexford, waving into the sunset
No, there was good film of the fall, and it did make it into the final cut. I've actually got a copy of it on 8mm film somewhere in the basement. At least I hope I still have it. If I ever find it I'll get it transferred to digital.
What I do have is pictures of the whole thing, and in the next couple of days I'll get them posted into this thread.
Hmmmm. Maybe have to clear a couple of them with the censors first. Or at least give Tami the opportunity to pay me for not posting them here.

Andy - I typed it and read it at the same time without editing it. Given that the thing was originally written longhand as a journal entry thirty years ago, I wasn't sure just how it sounded today. Which was why I gave the caveat at the top.
If I don't mind thumpin' my own tub, it's not BAD. It could , of course, use the fine eye & fast fingers of an excellent editor ( Katie !?! ) but, as a story from BITD it pretty much catches the zeitgeist. Esp of the summit bivi. That really was a glorious experience.
I'm lookin' fwd to David's pix. Post whatchya want Davie.......tho' keep any pinnk parts out of it hahahahahaha.
And David is rite about the fall making it into the final cut. I recall seein' the thing on the telly. It's just that The Fall was edited to fit ( it WAS a 30 sec spot ; that's 720 frames of film only ) (said the animator in me )
I don't remember a sunset either. All the stuff we did was during the daytime.
One note that din't make it into my story was this :
When we were shooting on the summit of Rexford, our "technicians" ( Peter and Peder ) were obliged to hide so they weren't in the shot. A big fin of rock jutting out provided them shelter and so, behind it they went and sparked a fatty they did.
As the helicopter came in for the shot, the voice came over telling the boys to put the spliff out , that it looked like a chimney was atop that mountain spewin' forth smoke.
Hahaha....

Answer to MH2's question from previous thread ... No I wasn't involved in that ascent.
Unfortunately during that era I was operating under the premise of ....
"I had to drink a lot, in order to save the country"

"I had to drink a lot, in order to save the country" ....
An old story, but it could be a good one, Bruce. Your travels in Mongolia were well represented. I am sure you could help along that idea to pull the ST lens a mm or 2 off The Valley.
