feralfae,
John is not making Prohibitionist type moral arguments against using marijuana.
He is just pointing out that a mix of counties and states where it is legal in some places and illegal in others creates incentives for people to grow it (legally or illegally) with the goal of selling it illegally.

Feralfae, I also agree that you have totally misinterpreted JGills' posts.

You, of course, gloss over your own agenda, which appears to be MJ availability everywhere no matter what the cost.

It sounds like there are some problems with how the law was written in CO, but who wrote it? Not MJ antagonists! Not law enforcement!

"In the 1980s the THC concentration was up to 11 percent coming from Mexico. Colorado now has 30 percent and up to 60 percent in hash oil. A single plant can produce products valued at up to $7,000 in Arkansas and New York."

60 percent!! Sorry but I ain't buying it! I've seen the percentages stated for some of the consumables and I call bull! 26% and it barely cut it.
The best i've had has been back in the day and we used to think 18% was kicking it! No there are not really any new strains that are that much more than what was already here. IMO what you are seeing is market hype to manipulate prices. 60% .... I reckon I'd be comatose for a week:)

You would if you could, I'll bet!

I have a grandson who works in the industry here and I'll check with him.

EDIT:

Hash oil contains 30 % to 50 % THC (or more if washed with alkali). (Wikipedia)

Road trip upcoming. CA, OR & WA are legal, so I won't be bringing weed for the same reason I won't be bringing beer and cheeseburgers.

What do you call the places where weed is sold (legal)? Shops? Stores? Dispensaries? That one sounds like somewhere you go when you're sick.

What do you call the guy (gal) working the counter? "Budtender" seems like "bartenderesss", which pisses off female bartenders. (it'd probably piss off a male bartender, too)

Is it proper etiquette to tip those guys? How much? I hate to be the guy who stiffs someone everyone else sees fit to takes care of.

I read where Oregon has more weed than they can smoke.

http://www.wweek.com/news/2018/04/18/oregon-grew-more-cannabis-than-customers-can-smoke-now-shops-and-farmers-are-left-with-mountains-of-unwanted-bud/

Help is on its way.

I remember when these were quite popular. Delivered right from Hawaii no less. No taxes, just disorganized crime_sters.

Here in San Diego they are making a fraction of what they expected to make off the taxes. the laws incentivized illegal growing! Agree with Chaz, repeal and let them operate like liquor stores.

Chaz, enjoy your time in the northwest. They're pretty much called retailers around here and don't forget they can only take cash, no debit or credit. THC content is listed on the packaging. I thought about getting into the analysis end of the business, as I run a wine lab and have some good equipment, but the price of entry is enormous.

Edited to add: Beware heading from Washington into Idaho; seems the Idaho LEOs are stopping non-Washington cars to check for MJ.

I do not smoke so this is second hand knowledge but I have heard the prices in Oregon are very good.

Thanks, Winemaker. Having the time of my life, even though my trusty pickup quit running yesterday. I'm holed up in Santa Cruz licking my wounds while the Toyota guys get it back on the road. There's worse places to be stuck, by far. Two excellent breweries and two good taco stands within 200 yards of my room are keeping me occupied.

I understand the regs the growers (why are they called "growers", when everyone else who grows crops out of the ground are called farmers?) have to follow are just totally asinine. They're taxed, ahead of time, on the land they intend to use to grow weed, by the square foot, whether they produce a crop or not. Over time, this will weed out (see what I did there?) some of the Emerald Triangle shitbirds whose only talent is being an outlaw, not a farmer or business person. C'mon guys! What kind of a "farmer" hauls soil to his farm, and then has to engineer a custom climate for his crops to grow?

Contrast that with avocados. I asked nobody's permission to plant avocado trees, and I don't owe anybody anything unless and until I turn a profit. And then it's taxed just like the rest of my income.

They're pretty much called retailers around here and don't forget they can only take cash, no debit or credit.

"Retailer" sounds good.

Kind Peoples weed retailer in Santa Cruz is a professional operation. They have their sh#t together. They accept debit cards for payment. I'm not sure how they do it while others don't. They even have a weed vending machine, like the old cigarette machines.

chaz better hope he never breaks down in humbolt or redding

or weed...

Twenty years ago, my mom was one of the big mucky-mucks at Humboldt State. As head of admissions, just a few weeks after taking the job, she had a recruitment video produced, which featured low-level aerial video, shot from a low-flying helicopter. No one told her that the people up there panic at the sight of any helicopter, most especially a low-flying one. And it's not because there are a bunch of 'Nam vets living with PTSD either.
