No. The ownership of the FA does not revert to the "community" upon the FA climber's death. It becomes part of the estate and is transferred according to the terms of the will.

"I hearby bequeath all decision-making on routes I established on Middle Cathedral Rock to... whilst all decision-making for Lower Brother shall go to.... Except in the case where I established routes with 3 or more people, in which case a simple majority of estate directors is sufficient for all decisions of an internal nature and a two thirds majority shall be required for decisions affecting the community at large...."

Dude, what if a nefarious political action committee with undisclosed donors goes around buying the rights from the estates of the deceased FAists, and turns a trad area into a sport-climber haven! Doh!

If ever there was the plot for epic climber fiction, this is surely it.

FA ownership, community ownership......this "ownership" principle is novel. I just can't wrap my head around the idea of ANY ownership of a climb. Can someone help me?
