I just started logging onto this site about a month or two ago, and the topics have gotten more and more stupid. Did everybody stop climbing or what? If yor bored go read a book or something, or better yet go drop some acid and expand your mind, then post something interesting. Thanks, Don

It's just a fashion statement - like the ones you find at the mall. It'll die and we'll return to our regularly scheduled programming. See... If I was to bitch I'd have to go the mall. But I'd rather watch football and then go to a radical expansion yoga workshop. So I won't... bitch

what, this far down in the post and nobody's pointed out that
"This is a Climber's forum" NOT a "climbing forum" though climbing is a central topic.
To amplify Werner's response, when someone does post about climbing, it gets a requisite 15-35 responses and plunges to the depths of the data base list, only to be elevated by occasional "bumps" (and to you bumpers out there, you can, and should, remove your "bump" once someone posts an intelligent response after your bump... in the limit of eternity, the forum will be a majority of responses of the form: "BUMP").

Ya know, I just tend to avoid the "stupid" posts (like this one! LOL). Some how I allowed myself to get sucked in. What you dislike may be the bees knees to someone else, as well.
There are plenty of great posts on the taco stand. If your version of myopia limits you to only seeing the first page or that the only relevant topics are on the first page, then you are missing out on a lot. Looks like the mall also features the Short Attention Span Theater.
If you find a post you like, you can bookmark it, set it aside in a tab in your browser, or via other means. I've got enough of a backlog to keep me busy for a solid week and I'm sure there are many more that I've missed.
Start searching around. Stories from Don Lauria are definitely worth a pass. Or maybe the giant Stonemaster threads might be of interest. How about the many photo threads like Clouds, Who the Heck are you Supertopoans, Jello's Have You Ever Been Blown Away, or threads based on the legends and characters of climbing? These are just off the top of my head.
Bumping is a band-aid... treats the symptom, not the cause and rather inelegantly as Ed points out. Rather than "bump" why not make a short relevant comment?
You know, there's a whole genre of posts about "Why people post stupid topics on SuperTopo." You could spend a while just investigating those if it whets your whistle.! Seems seasonal that they pop up.

It is to some extent a seasonal thing - during the winter, say November to March, there seem to be more non-climbing topics. There are also occasionally outbreaks of collective silliness.

hey there say, you know.... you meet and see many neat folks on supertopo... and---you just NEVER know which thread/post they will pop-up on....
if some of the "just passing time" post, did not exist, many times neat little jewels of thought would not pop-up either...
you find jewels everywhere...
plus, just seeing a friend or buddy, for a few seconds on line, shows that he is still here, and alive-and-well, and hopefully not depressed...
and:
say, you find neat werner humor-insight, too...
and, as to jewels, say, we just got hear a bit from ed hardinin
