A beautiful weekend with Slakkey, Denise and Soren, my old neighbours from SF. Fern Springs, the ONLY place for H2O, the Deli, coffee's on us!
Russ was under the weather, sadly. Intreped Soren shoves our butts to a couple of base climbs at the base of the Captain, Then we manage the Alcove swing, Now , how cool!!!!!!!
Pizza deck for 2 nights.
well, it is the best grub, eh?
They depart, so I solo it a bit around Sentinal Boulders and Swans Slab,
tryin to keep the chops happening.
Go to the bridge, It is Toms last day, so he is in the meadow
I pull a chair along and sit behind him quietly, I must leave shorty, but cannot tear my gaze from the beautiful black Cathedral Rocks behind me, and the magnificent Captian in front of me. Gotta go!
Leaned over to organize my belongings, and, at that moment, completely lost it. The tears come from nowhere, maybe from the River, but I am unable to move for a few moments.
The emototions are, You are so damn lucky to be here, and make sure you get back a lot!
Such a Powerful place, The Valley!
forever your subject,

Well Joe, despite being under the weather that weekend I still had a good time. The Valley always is a magical place for me. I am glad that You and Denise and Soren were able to re unite after so many years. First at the facelift and agin just a couple of weeks ago. I can not think of a better place to re kindle that friendship. The Valley works its magic in many ways.

We are a bit spoiled to be able to visit such a place several times a year. To think that there are those that may only get to see it once in a lifetime and to think I have been three times this year. Yes, we are very lucky not just in that we are able to visit such a place but to be able to share it with good friends as well.

Yes, Joey. Thanks for including us!! Rather daring of you, actually!

As far as I am concerned, and apart from many, I have found climbing to be very emotional. It is not engineering any more if it ever was.

I suppose it was thought to be "engineering" in the time of Morgan Harris, Wheelock, Leonard et al.--- those "dynamic belay", knots-and-ropes guys and also guys who went through the War--- but you know I think even these bean counters climbed because of the huge psychological values they found there. They had to--- why else would you so explicitly risk your life so frequently merely to "navigate" through useless aspects of Nature? And if one confronts climbing experience with a really clear view on it, it is thoroughly moving, completely overwhelming even, and not at all mundane. So yeah, it can be tearful in a good way as you describe but also tearful in a really horrible way as well, say when we lose a friend or partner or find ourselves utterly defeated and in fathomless peril. All considered, climbing is very very emotional and needs to be thought of in this way more often by more people.

Hey Joe,
I think every time I drive out of the valley I feel so lucky to be able to do this stuff in that place. It's some sort of a blessing.
