Mike, very funny. Thanks for the ideas. I heard that there are sandstone towers pretty close to Phoenix... is it true?

Yarnell Wall. Good one. :-)
Myles - head over and post up something on the Arizona forum on mountainproject.com.
Pretty sure someone will pop up.
I'm up to my eyeballs already, or I'd volunteer.
There's lots of local info over there on mountainproject as well... check out Pinnacle Peak, Little Granite Mountain, McDowell Mountains (this is all local rock in northeast Scottsdale).
You can also check out the Queen Creek stuff (about 1.5 hr. drive east of Peoria). This is sport climbing on rhyolite (volcanic).
REI over in Paradise Valley has a collection of one-sheet Marty Karabin guides for quite a few of those areas, although if you buy a copy of my guide (Phoenix Rock II) that would be cool too. :-) You have to get the one-sheet guides for Queenn Creek as the area guide by Marty is out of print.
Let me know if you have any specific questions about the climbing and I can help you out.

Just saw the sandstone towers post. That would be Sedona, about 1.5 hours north of Phoenix. Nothing really closer.
Close in to the metro area is desert granite (coarse) and petrified mud (Camelback Mountain, Lookout Mountain).

Myles,
If you don't get a better offer, I might be able to meet you for a half day at Pinnacle Peak Monday or Tuesday next week.

Thanks Pernell.
West? I said east... I swear.
Hell, I don't know where that sport climbing crud is...
Myles - would be up for getting together, but this is a bad time for me. I got a ton of junk going on and plans already for the weekend. If something opens up, I'll post up.
Very much encourage posting up at mountainproject... there are way more local people over there and you'd probably find someone. If you do it quickly, you might hook up with someone for this weekend's beanfest down in Cochise Stronghold. There will be a bunch of people down there for that.

I could maybe climb in Sedona with you on the 12th or maybe even the 13th. Let me know if you are interested and I'll work it out.
I climb in Sedona a fair bit. It is a special place.
