Hi Everyone,

I've been a climber and a web designer for many years. Recently I decided to combine the two and construct a website providing a service which I think is somewhat lacking on the internet. The site is called Climb Clips. Simply put, it's a climbing video community. It runs using a system similar to You-Tube. You-Tube works fine, but why lose our climbing videos among millions of other non-climbing related clips?

Users can
sign up and upload their own climbing videos,
view other videos sorted by category,
 send messages to other users,
 Create and modify personal profiles
Create interest groups with other users
 Rate videos
embed videos on other websites, just like you-tube
and more

There are few rules:
Mostly all directly climbing related content, though there are "lifestyle/fun" and "other" categories. Go nuts!
No overly violent of overly obscene content etc..Swearing and huge whippers = ok.
I want to try to keep videos depicting areas with access issues off the site. At least don't tell where it is.

So, the site is in it's infancy. You might call it "ClimbClips: BETA", no pun. Embarrassingly enough, I only have 2 video clips on it! But you have to start somewhere right?

I plan on adding "exclusives", my own video work on various climbs/subjects. I'm not trying to compete with the big boys in that regard though. It's all about fun. ClimbClips will always be 100% free.

Again the site is new, so there may be bugs in it still. If anyone has suggestions or comments, I'd like to hear them.

Thanks!!
-T. Carrier

" can we post snowboarding videos?"

-I suppose you could in the 'lifestyle' or 'other' categories. I'd mostly like to stick to climbing vids, of course, but if you have something to share, go ahead.

@ L

Oh yeah, I've seen that, lol.

Damn, that gives me an idea, I should have named the site CluckingClips.com instead. What was I thinking!

Nice site.... I'm thinking its a sham, though. Waiting for my username and password to be emailed to me now. I think the information is going to be used against me at some point.

I haven't written the email policy yet. Basically it will be the "we will not give or sell your email address to any one else, ever" type things.

So don't worry.

Thanks for reminding me to do that though.

The size limit is set to 300mb, though I haven't tried anything higher than about 120. From what I understand, encoding to a Constant Bit Rate (CBR) is better than Variable Bit Rate (VBR) if that means anything to you. The output resolution is 480x360. Starting with that res is supposed to give best results. I'm not sure what starting formats/codecs work best yet.
Let me know if you have any trouble.

nice site.

Someone needs to post that video of Jingy falling head over heals off that boulder problem.

Is it OK if I post a video of an electric drill? I was gonna do that on this forum but apparently now that is against the rules.

nature - Attempted to load that yesterday or Sunday.. Still waiting on the background check from the webmaster at that site.

What's taken so long? Do you think they found other info that may be incriminating or otherwise bad for the site?

Still waiting though.

Load it!

"Is it OK if I post a video of an electric drill?"

Yeah, it's ok. Just put it in the "other" category. I assume it's related to bolt hole drilling? As the site grows, posting random or off topic things will be no big deal, as the vast majority of clips will be directly climbing related. Because I have so few videos on the site now, I'm a little wary about people getting confused regarding what the site is "all about". But, still, it's fine, go for it. Maybe write a little explanation.

That bouldering fall video sounds gnarly.

I'm just happy to see a few people checking the site out.
