very sad. I'm a little puzzled as to where this happened, having just hiked up Russel a few weeks ago, not too many places to fall from on the regular route other than the final ridge.

You'd be surprised, but iirc Gene Drake and my old partner Raja almost died on that ridge (yea, the easy part) when a humoungous block cut loose... The downclimb is kinda sketch if yer unroped IMO.

I do not yet know the technical details (bad weather?) but will be attending the service this weekend.
I was a friend of Charlie's and had gone climbing with him before. He was a great guy and will be missed.
