Say, a few days ago I saw the thread with pictures of manufactured boulders in a park with kids crawling all over them. I showed them to our town manager, and he's interested in finding out more, like price, who manufactures them, etc.
I looked for the thread, but couldn't find it.
Anyone know more about it?

There's a reference in the thread to Tami (Knight) having perhaps designed some of the units. She used to work for a company in the Vancouver area that makes climbing boulders for parks and such, called Rock Craft. It may also be called Edge Climbing Walls. Don't know if there's a website or anything, but I have e-mail for the owner.

I stumbled across some in St Petersburg, Florida on vacation...they're in a park right in front of The Pier, a popular tourist spot. They even had a kind of padded sod grass that was natural to break your fall. I forget the name of the manufacturer though. Let me see if I kind find a pic of it.
You could always contact the city of St. pete though. Let me look around.

Both Eldorado Wall Company and Entre-Prise make a good playground boulder. Pretty expensive though...

The best source for those is Ty Foose's company Monolithic Sculptures. He's in Bould and builds all kinds of natural climbing structures and made the giant boulder at the Spot. He's done tons of park boulders and playground boulders.Check out his stuff at http://www.monosculpt.com/

I took these photos today in a park (Heather farm) in Walnut Creek, Ca
even jams for old guys,
I think they said that hooks, heads & beat-ons opportunities are still in the developmental stage.
I think this is a good thing and would like to think that liability should be as easy to deal with as they do with the ubiqtuous skate parks and trad playgrounds.
However, I'd go with anything that has the Tami Knight seal of approval!

Kent, WA is opening a new skatepark in June. If you dont hurt yourself in the bowls or the full pipe -
you could then head to the back and try out their new climbing boulders -
There's also this crazy art work that might have some routes on it.
I'll try yo get some better photos when it opens.

My hometown in FL has a rig that came out of the same molds as that one jaybro posted. Kind of kiddie only, 10' tall and hard to make the holds into anything but jugs. There also aren't ground level holds, so you can't really make up any sit starts without your ass being a foot under your toes. I usually go visit it when I'm there and fool around under the overhang barefoot for a while, and then try to make up no-hands stuff on the slab. The jams are there, but way slick!
I've messed around on ones like the thing DMT originally posted, they're way better from a non-kiddie perspective, way more holds to be had.
