we were discussing the adds with the far out pictures of climbing at "Chouinard's Yard" at Zander's off-width dojo... scuffy_b recalls they were in Summit magazine...

...anyone out there with the editions and a scanner interested in scanning them in and posting them?

It's been over 30 years since I'd seen them and it would be great to see 'em again...

it would be appropriate for April Fool's day

Ed,

Not what you are looking for but, you may like it anyway. I might have to look through the old Summits.

I remember the dog leg pitch. Unfortunately I sold my copies of Summit to Melinda.

Here you go Ed and John. For the record, this ad campaign was by West Ridge Sports in CA (as shown) and ran during the summer-fall of 1970. Here are three in the series. There may be one more that I don't have. The traverse off the dogleg showed up in poster form at one point in connection with Chouinard Equipment.

Since you're feeling nostalgic, here's another cartoon and ad that ran in the May 1970 issue.

And since it's April Fool's Day....

Wonder if that's where the Pythons got the idea?

"Well, it's a bit gripping is this, Chris. I've got to try and reach that bus stop in an hour or so and I'm doing it by laying back on this gutter so I'm kind of guttering and laying back at the same time, and philosophizing."

That Monty Python clip is one of my all time favorites. Brilliant - especially the fall.

Chicken Skinner - Years ago I was interviewed for a job at Rincon Machine (Chouinards Factory) and remember that picture. But what I wanted to see is the sign that said - "We skunk's have got to stink together" It is just inside. Classic.

BTW here is some trivia who can name all of Chouinard's companies and the parent corporation? Chicken Skinner I know you know them so no fair answering. ;-)

Ray - I just made it up. Make kind of a cool t-shirt, huh?

The more classic look...

The ascent of Chouinard's yard reminds me of a favorite TR of mine..."Into Thick Air," a tale of an expedition to the top of Kansas.
