I want to see what Tar comes up with to compare with the picture in Chapter XIV... I'm thinking the one with the caption: "My Tent-Bearer--The Hunchback".

And then there is the whole rant on cretinism... I can't wait...

"The pecular form of idiocy which is called cretinism is so highly developed in the valley of Aosta, and the natives are so familiarized with it, they are almost indignant when the surprised traveler remarks its frequency."

Perhaps just dirtbag climbers?

We also learn that: "Once a cretin, you are always one."

This goes on for four pages... with a great illustration by Whymper... "A Cretin of Aosta"

Great photo's Tar...I spend the better part of two summers hiking and running in the Indian Peaks when I was working on my hiking guide to the area.

Great place with really good access less than a hour from downtown Boulder.
