These directions will take you to the top of the 4 lane. Take a right at the top on to Tollhouse Road. Look for signs. If you go to Cressmans you have gone too far. Drop down Tollhouse Road for 2 miles and you will see a big pullout on the left. Please park here at the main dirt lot just off Tollhouse Rd. on the backside of the rock. You will see signs marking the start of a HIGH CLEARANCE 4x4 road that climbs up to the Cap Rock area. Follow signs and cones. This is a very nice warm up hike and does not pose any problems with the current access issue. If you do park further down the main dirt road please do not block the gate and please do not walk on the land owners property. If you choose to go onto the private property don't be surprised if you are greeted with a gun in your face or a bullet flying over your head. Eric will post signs making this very clear.

A new 4x4 road has been built just prior to the gate on the right directly under the power lines. Eric has put a sign in marking the way. It is steep and loose and should only be attempted by those with a strong 4x4 with clearance and good tires.

Camping:

You can camp in the dirt pullout if you want to be near your vehicle or you can camp on top of Cap Rock and wake up to a great view. Eric plans to camp on Cap Rock and will have everything needed for cooking, fire, water and plenty of beer. Eric will be glad to shuttle gear and people to the top. Just give him a call at (559) 285-8566 and he’ll pick you up. If rain becomes an issue we will be camping at the main pullout.

See Dave Daly's post http://www.summitpost.org/mountain/rock/151415/tollhouse-rock.html for more beta on the area.

Actually Mooch, I did both.
Here's 1981. Patty McCartney lead the Tollhouse Traverse in high heels, nylons and an evening gown. I followed her on cross country skis, cross country boots, and ski poles. We had challenged each other and had to follow through with it. I free climbed the route on the skis, and didn't use a tight rope or anything to compromise the "purity of style". The ski photo is at the alcove move in the middle of the last pitch. To accent her gown she chose to tie in with a luxurious blue swami belt crafted from one inch webbing. I would like to see someone top this for self imposed difficulty and out of place sports wear on the Traverse.
