Trying to get rid of the stuff the shizzle and the sheee and simplify life.

Anyway I found Jerry Moffat's ear ring I won from him mucho years ago in a, well you might have guessed it, a beer chugging contest bitd at a party in J. Tree at Ash Gordon's house. It wasn't a crazy party....our four kids were there so we had to behave.

What's your best find ?

Fun Times Russ, Mussey, Fish.....bitd it was fish.

EDIT: Kids were enthralled with Maria's story about Ash and his Ashes on the mantel there. We we young and cremation hadn't become a table topic yet.

Russ, Dude, if yo still out there. Maria also told the kiddos that Ash had a lion and some other creatures in his back yard. I saw empty pens. Do you think this was fo' real ?

Slakkey, it was so Grate to meet you and your beautiful family at the Lift. Thanks for saying Howdy. The key is save yourself, only have one beer, and drink it with Zest. :D oh, yeah, and focus.....hehehe

Edit: I think Russ meant the Brits were amateurs.....just guessing tho.

Double Edit: disclaimer, last time I did this was @ 6 years ago in the yucatan pennisula. Only time in life I lost... to a New York stockbroker....by one swallow, we had a rematch same results. I think something funky was up.....just a gut feeling.

From what I've seen, Lynne is certainly no amateur..... Moffat on the other hand..... belonged in diapers back then.

Edit: Ash had two lions, an ocelot, a cassowary and 3 Haitians penned up back there for years.

You should give it to the YCA and Ken, for the museum. The earring, that is - not the beer.

Back to the closet.....
Climbing related....the red swami everyone wore (never ever a harness for anything, did they even make harnesses in the 70's and 80's ????) The original blue tiny little rack used to carry everything, a leeper and a C- 3 USA, and the famous orange helmet so popular then.

edit: somehow I don't think russ may be kidding about the Haiitians. Pretty certain they were caretakers for Mr. Ash. and jess worked for him.

Mighty Hiker, Hi

It is a very cool earring for it's time. I had never seen one like it which is why we arranged the competition (read, lynne wanted that earring). It is a multi colored fly fish lure...teal blue, yellow, orange and several speckled hawk like brown colors with a pearl on top.

I doubt Ken wants it....but he can have it. Other wise, I'm wearing it to the Allied Climbers of San Diego Party this Friday. :D

By the way, Jerry and his friend Chris lived with us for several weeks when they migrated from England and I have the utmost respect for both of them. They were awesome with our 4 kids and Dan Boy gave them a work list to accomplish every day before he left for his job. They were fun, honest and I enjoyed their stay.

Off topic, Russ' avatar of Sham-Wow Vince's mug shot after he got arrested for beating up a hooker is priceless.

closets can be cleaned? i thought skipping town was the only option. btw, was ash called ash before the cremation?

in the late seventies i insinuated myself yabo style into a scene called the monastary, which was a rental reserved for climbers in a little ski town in montana. the understanding was that regardless of how the rent might or might not be getting paid, the appearance of a tent in the back yard was to be taken in stride. this hub of climberdom was legendary for decades of absentee landlordism, rights of tenancy could be passed most casually, and the owner deserves much credit as both a practitioner and benefactor of the art.

a few artifacts of prehistoric european climbing equipment hung on appointed places on the wall for long enough to etch their image on the faded paint, and a repository of topos and notes passed through each regime. door casings were polished since well before finger boards were marketed.

but upstairs, in a tiny closet crowded by the slope of the roof, a stack of old summit, and mountain magazines dating back into single digits layed heaped in a scrambled pile and provided clues to more than a generation of dirtbags, that reckless, can do attitudes inspired deeds in far off places, by people we heard spoken of again, and that we might later come to realize, were huge

the ol' cats are the culprits and they climb fast, hard, and high...
