Hi,
I'm wondering how do you select webbing or rope to use as anchor ( for rappel ), what's the most important criteria? min. breaking strength? dia.?

Thanks.

The type of webbing climber fools use to dangle like mis-guided,

It is/was derived from mil spec. Webbing.

Buy the rainbow-colored stuff, unless you don't want to die, or aren't very secure in your gender.

Actually, the so called "rappel anchor" I mentioned are used to allow me lowering to a fishing spot,I'll be fishing overnight and the anchor(webbing or rope, or necessary S.S. chain with rappel ring?) will be retrieved the next morning, after I finish the fishing trip.

I've used both chain and webbing before(1" webbing ,rated to 4000LB, equaliing 3 S.S. boomer Fixe hanger, using drilled in bolt 12mm dia., rope pass through 2 opposing S.S. carabiner), But I'm just wondering what type of webbing does other climber use?

I've had good luck with this:

A little on the heavy side, though.

I try to avoid faded, stiff, or worn webbing when rapping. Look for new stuff.

When I go fishing, I just braid together 3 strands of 50-pound test and call it good.

But seriously, you want to go to a climbing shop, not a hardware store, to get your gear.

That"s a good one. Have to remember that when trying to save weight on those alpine ice fishing trips.

HOLY.........
Of course I'm talking about the webbing in the climbing shop. There are many ( if not thousand ) of webbings, just wondering what size is the min. size to be safe. and of course min. tensile rating.
Thanks.
