Erik - can't remember the verbal digs for SoCal from 20 years ago, but here are some classics from the Central Coast - warning, some are pretty arcane for a newcomer.
Santa Barbara - the land of the newly wed and nearly dead.
Carpinteria - No, We Don't Sell Carpet Asshole!
Oxnard - where the sh#t meets the sea. (think sewer plant)
Lompoc - At Least We Don't Suck as Much As Guadalupe.
Buellton Blows because Solvang Sucks. (wind related)
Then there are some likewise dubious gems from inland:
Taft - This Ain't Fukin Texas.
Cuyama - Chumash phrase meaning "You're Lost!"
Kettleman City - not a phrase, but a ski bud of mine back in the day on our weekly bonzai runs to the mountains would refer to our first stop at KC as a "Sh#t and Git in a Split". Meaning you could hit a bathroom, and get gas, food and back on the freeway in less than 10 minutes.

Speaking of central coast town monikers , what do you got for San Luis Obispo ? I lived there for some years.

Dap - the only one I can recall hearing about SLO was based on a fad by the CalPoly grads who would torch their furniture at end of term.
With led to the story that Luis Obispo was the Patron Saint of Burning Sofas.
