I never really cared for Osman too much but pulling that flag and looking that good at it while soloing, really impressed me.

I saw that picture in Iowa in the clothing section of a department store.

It was hung the wrong way, I showed him hanging from the bottom a giant roof. I tried to explain it to them but they weren't having any of it.

"Now way, that's not possible."

not impossible just very, very difficult

I could do a flag when I was a 17 yr old gymnast. What, 38 years ago, ha. Ain't tried in a while but I don't think its going to work.

I could when I climbed full time. Getting into it is harder than holding it. There is a trick to lining everything up so the pull and push on your arms doesn't have any side forces.

Back in the early 70s, I had it in my mind that I wanted to climb the flagpole in front of the ranger's station in Tuolumne Meadows and flag from the top. I could flag on a pole as long as it was small enough to grasp, but I couldn't get from a pole climbing position to a flag position, safely--that would be an ugly fall.

And anyway, there were no girls around the Ranger station.

It's pretty easy to do on a small tree about four inches in diameter. You can tuck it under one shoulder and then extend your legs, saying something like, "sure is windy!"

Cheating compared to the above, but it works.
