I find that my mind is clearest, and that i make my best decision making after a couple of days out at JT. Usually at the end of the day on top of Intersection rock, watching the sunset.

A couple days out in the ocean always works too.

No matter what is going on in my life, i always feel cleansed, and things make more sense, after a couple days on the stone, or out at sea.

Lots of different times.
 At work.
 Before I leave for work.
 On the way home.
When I discuss problems with others and learn their ideas or try to explain mine.
And, of course, in the bathroom.

Try to wake up @ 5 every morning.... open the shutters and watch the day open up from dark to grey to dawns first light. As the light expands so does the life around me. I see the birds perched on the tiny tips of tree limbs and the neighbor's dog roam past my window.

In a wonderful array of light and life the sun begins to spread and touch the rocky mountain spots that rim my Valley. The greens and golds of avocado and orange groves are outlined with clear light.

I spend about an hour or two with jesus, bible and journal. Clarity, new ideas, putting the ones I love, care about and friends on my heart and mind before God's throne jess works early. Peace, Lynne

"Best thinking" could be:
developing life philosophies, resolving bad internal programming
 mentally composing trip reports
 solving analytical problems for work
----> immediate troubleshooting system outages
----> long-term designs, factoring in many considerations

Long-term complex design work I tend to do best staying up late and night, sometimes into the next morning.

Trip reports get mentally composed driving home, or sometimes in the moment of action I think of a phrase to incorporate to the later developed composition.

Life philosophizing, tends to happen late at night for me... or at pretty random times based on other circumstances in my life.

My brain is sharpest in the morning, usually after I shower or have started the coffee/ Occasionally I just out of bed up and at it, but most of the time I need to have at least that coffee-grinding transition.

I have that energy level and thinking ability through lunchtime. But if I eat certain foods, like bread, I crash really fast afterward.

This might sound weird, but sleeping time is also very productive, ideas/concepts-wise for me. I'm not talking about those dreams one has where they have *the most amazing* idea that is a guaranteed winner, only to wake up to realize that fabulous idea was something like creating a fashion line of shoes for ducks or some other nonsensical thing.

But more of a semi-sleep state, where my mind is relaxed and the ideas just flow through. I also have had some pretty strange sleeptime experiences where it *seems* I am some sort of student to a group of scientist/doctors/spiritualists. These happen once every few years, and I get all sorts of insights about how people interact, emotional issues, fears, crap like that.

I guess that doesn't go along with "thinking" really, but it seems to have been something that has affected my life pretty deeply and I seem to carry over these lessons in my waking life.

Well, love hearing the different takes. Unique we be as humans .... specially created (evolved for some of you)...no two the same. What we can be for each other and what we can learn from one another is pretty awesome. Philo and Agape, Lynne

My best thinking is when I am in that space between being awake and dreaming. It's when I face what I'm hiding from myself. Usually it pops me out of bed and gets me roaming...

i'm with pud and DMT on this: on a long drive, ideally in the great basin -- with the radio off and all the windows down. A/C is for... um, lady cats. popping over the toiyabe's near austin, nv seems to have especially good 'head rays'.

BITD, the gokyo valley, khumbu, nepal. more recently, one has to tend way west for the same effect. best if you find that your own self.

i think we should all pitch in an send nutjob to Ely via Hwy 50 - with no radio or A/C. i'll start the movement by fronting him $20 for 12 cans of tuna and 4 lbs of tortillas. water is free -- if you know where to find it.

^,,^

nearly died on that little one on the left -- was saved while wandering and mumbling at the base of it by a woman twice my age and half my size -- in a storm i hope you never endure. pisser i can't speak tibetan.
