Mickey Roark (sp??) played the crap out of this role. Nice and deadpan. And cheesy, too.

"Hey Mickey, i got a great role for you. You're gonna play some macho dude who lifts a ton of weights and used to be this major bad ass fighter, but now is over the hill and fading into obscurity looking for one last hurrah. And no, its not an autobiography!"

Can't wait to see that flick.
I've been a Mickey Rourke fan ever since Angel Heart!

Check out Clint Eastwood in Grand Torino. Pretty classic. I grew up in that area so it brings back memories, some fond and some not.

I liked this film. Rourke will recieve a nomination for it.
It's like a train wreck, tough to watch, but can't take your eyes off it! There's a certain pathos, and a resignation to his charactor. I would dare to say almost auto-biographical.
I once read something, by Ament I think, " he who resigns himself to fate, finds that fate accepts your resignation."

edit, Grand Torino; much in the same mold. Another good film.

Mickey was great. He was the only reason for seeing the film cause I thought it was too cliched (of course how else could you do a wrestling movie?)
The scene where he was trying to get the right weight on the potato salad for the old hag was hysterical.
Maybe now he should play an old wall climber.

Mickey Rourke actually started boxing profesionally at the age of 38. That was the start of his decline. Glad to see him back.

What a fantastic film. It really conveyed the heart of an aging champion- and mirrored it against the realities of being what you love. Tragically human.

Haven't seen it yet, but Bukowski had some respect for Rourke so he can't be half bad. I always enjoyed his performances. I know he's had his share of bad luck but who hasn't?

Have yet to see his latest, but Rourke is one of those actors you can't get enough of. His work in Pope of Greenwich Village and in Rumblefish should've given up at least one Oscar Gold.

All the $$$ is thrown at lightweights like Tom Cruise.

Meanwhile, Rourke is ignored by the casting cognescenti.

American cinema is becoming like American car companies: total crap nobody's going to pay for.

He won a BAFTA (British equivalent of the Oscar) and the Independent Spirit award. The machine that *bleeps* out the 7 words ya can't say on TV musta been worn out by Oscar time, so they didn't dare give him an open mic there, too (maybe):

I loved the scene when he is working in the deli section in the supermarket. Since seeing this movie every time I am ordering something I think of his meltdown! He did a great portrayal of that sh*tty job, since then, I go out of my way to be nice to those underrated deli workers.
