A sweet TR giving an up close and exciting depiction of what it takes to send the famous Totem Pole in Tasmania. Congrats to Josh and Nathalie.

hey there all... say, since this is TBI awareness month... (traumatic brain injury month)....

i will add that tami of cananda ? did share about a guys climb there, that near ended fatal, but he was rescued and still tells the story, to this day... after a bad head injury...

tami, if you are around, i have the links somewhere, but i am not sure of the man's name...

maybe you could share, here, too, it would be a totem pole trip, to, one that helps one be thankful for our climbing buddies and friends...

EDIT: ooops, hey there travilin_light.... say...
also not meaning to knock the neat trip link you shared, as it is GREAT PICS and a great climb... (still waiting for the pics to down load)...but, it was a man's dream, and it is nice that after all his awufl trouble, that folks can learn of his challenge, agains this ol' totem pole, too... :)

I was lucky enough to hike out to look at that thing once, while bike touring in Tassie. It was really intimidating just looking at it.

hey there cosmic...wow, that's some kind of art-work there.. say, i remember the pic that was on supertopo a pic back, where they had ERASED the ol totem... it looked really strange... at first, though, i had never seen the true pic so i had not so much "shock" affect of noticing any differences, so of course, i set-out to find the real thing, and soon did...

sure love seeing that artisic rock and ocean... gutsy thing for folks trying to climb it..

hats off to all that have tried... :)

Haven't done the Tote, but we did do the Candlestick last year. That's the piece of rock on the other side of the gulch, also an island.
A few photos:
They can't say they didn't warn you..
Looking across the gulch past the Totem Pole
The swim across to the starting ledge
.. which is a tyrolean for the rest of us
The tyro back is at a higher level, 3 pitches up. This is what the Tote looks like as you tyro past the top of it.
Which is something like this..
