My 11 yr old daughter, Amber, is solid gold.

An old and very spiritual friend from Oregon called her "an old soul" even when she was a baby. She has a certain kind of seriousness and grace that you don't normally see in a youngster. I certainly don't see the same thing in my other children, although they are wonderful too.

Anyway, every morning, we see the same old homeless woman walking down the street near the kids school. She sometimes has a straggler dog with her, but always has on every layer she owns. It seems as though she sleeps on the zoo grounds somewhere.

This morning Amber made me stop. She jumped out of the car, ran over to this lady and asked her if she would like a nice sweet, crunchy apple for breakfast. The woman said "Yes, thank you. Bless you child.......Merry Christmas."

Amber jumps back in the car having done a small thing for humanity today.

The things I learn from my children....

Well let me chime in on both of Survival's kids--I met them last August during a long overdue visit. The two of them are just awesome. Went for a day of climbing with Survival's family up at Rumney and it was so cool to take a train of 5 up the cliffs. No crying, no whining, and man can those two kids climb. They listen, roll with the punches, and are just a pleasure to be around. What type of kid comes a wake's up one of Dad's climbing buddies and is actually happy to see you?

Just got back from another long overdue visit to New Mex. After knowing Survival for 31 years, we finally got away and tied in together for some craggin. Normally one wouldn't want anything to do with the domestic duties of dropping the kids off at school, going to B-ball practice, or even enduring watching them at their piano lesson..........not the case with this pair. Best part of it was looking at Survival during the piano lesson (while one was getting a little wound up) and telling him "now it's your turn".

These kids are the product of a great Dad whom I've been friends with for many years (and still owes me a climb up the Captain).

Great story, and I love to see people proud of their kids for what they're like, not just their achievements.

Buggs is the one that insisted we name her Amber after he finished delivering her in the hospital! No Sh*t.

After he finished marrying Jill and I.
You could say he's an important guy to me.
