Woody's story of his partner's accident and subsequent trip to the hospital has prodded me to post this note reminding all of you that there is one thing we all should do: Donate Blood.

Doesn't matter if you're a loony right- or left-wing political ranter, an atheist or a religious nut, an bad-ass trad or a weenie bolt-clipper. If you're a climber, you should be giving blood.

It's easy, it's a lot less painful than what you do for pleasure every weekend, it makes you feel good, and it will save somebody's life.

There's no down side. How many things in your life can you say that about?

Plus you get free pizza.

And it's a cheap buzz. I used to donate in college, then sprint up 9 flights of stairs and slam a beer. Good times.

Every time I give blood I pass out but I do it anyway. Next time the bank is here at my office I'll do it in the afternoon. Maybe doing after eating all day long will help. It doesn't hurt but for some reason I hit the floor. I did the same thing when I got my ears pierced. I successfully gave birth to 2 kids with no problems tho. Go figure. :-)

I go for the egg salad sammiches...

It's hard not to smile when I say my blood type is "be positive", I figure the blood bank is kinda like karma, but more immediately practical.

I gave blood once, for a week afterwards I couldn't get it up. :-)).

Actually, after the first time they said it probably was not the best thing for me as I have somewhat low blood pressure. I jokingly ask the nurses if I get prize if my BP is over 100. They think I am being a smart azz but then it comes something 98/72.

That said props to those folks who do give.

I'm up to 14 units since I started donating in 2004, last time about 3 weeks ago.
