Those are nice Jay! I'd like one of those for a gift. I made everyone gifts this year, here is what I made for my son:
Knitted scarfs for daughter and ex-mother in law, made a couple of blankets and put together a photo album for a friend, enjoyed every minute of it!!!

Brutus, how do I get on your list?! I haven't had any good homemade elderberry jam since my great aunt passed. YUM!
Me: a couple of scarve/hat sets; god only knows how many doggie biscuits; repotted a bunch of cuttings from my gramma's 20 year old Christmas cactus and her 15 year old peace lily, threw bows on them and called it good.

Yep, and we will post a photo later. The man child is painting it. I'm not supervising the painting at all, so I hope it will be good. He's pretty sharp- I think he'll pull it off.

hey there.... wow, khanom... that is beaut of a pic... the gold and contrast is fantastic...
say, karen... i love making those quilts... i have only down three... no money these days to buy anything and the material that i find here and there, for free is good only enough for me, and not for nice gifts... :(
but some day... perhaps...
BUT--- jay... i do make homemade gifts... i hvae lots of leftovers from when i was with my mom, after divorce, so i can usually make earrings... and, i also make dreamcatchers, and very nice ones, when i can...
crimpergirrl got one, but it was a simple and not well done one, as that was all i had to work with ....
i also made paper hearts and such, with little notes in them... and do cookies, when i can...
say---am making doggie bisquites, too... :)
*loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee elderberries... great job!

What an excuse--that's a gorgeous photograph!
I couldn't take one like that with a Nikon and a tripod.
As for gifts, home made mango chutney and also
fruit cakes--and these aren't like those brick door stops
everyone complains about. . . mmmmmmmmm

Low budget doesn't mean my buds don't get the best. Firewood collection cutoff was Dec. 15th. Right before I had to leave town I got out for a quick hour cutting pine sapwood from big old Ponderosa roots. It lights like gasoline when used as kindling. I bundled some up and tied a red ribbon around the 'faggot'. I've done this for a few years and the folks I give it to keep asking for more. 'Made' gifts are by far my favorite.

I love the homemade gift. I carved a few stone pieces and dug up a few crystals over the years. I;m bummed all my yarn is in twain harte right now, its the knitting season. One year I made cards out of photos but bizarre ones, with the inside statement "dear friend/relative, I hope you have a great xmas/holiday and all that. your friend/relative." you had to circle the appropriate thing.
oh! and one year, this is awesome, I got these bogus lottery tickets and gave one to my sister. she freaked the f_uck out because she thought she won $10,000. OMG, it was great. I was like, "read the back..." which told the reality.. but it was payback for so many years of hell and torment! My mom was like all evil gleam in her eye, "I need one of those for my brother..." we got him too!

I hate adding to peoples' clutter, so I make cookies! Lots ad lots and lots of cookies!! Yesterday I made orange butter cookies (tried a recipe from Sunday's NYT, and it was okay. Not fantabulous, but pretty good), chocolate, chocolate peppermint (thought this works in brownies, why not cookies? I'll tell you why - no matter how big or how fine it is, the peppermint melts and ruins the integrity or texture of the cookies unlike in a big gooey brownie) and my perennial favorite, cranberry toffee chocolate oatmeal. My grandmother used to love my almond tuiles, but as she died earlier this year, and they're a pain to make and package as gifts, I didn't do any this year :/
Also, vodka. I buy the cheap, $10 for 1.75mls crapola and filter it through a brita 6 times to get all the crap taste out (mind you it doesn't put good taste it, but it takes te gasoline taste out for sure!), infuse it with stuff (hibiscus and rose hips are always a hit; it's more or less red zinger vodka, isn't it? So I tried it with red zinger tea bags, and what do you know, less fuss and muss, so now you know my secret!) and put it into nice bottles (I ran out so now I buy them for like $3 at the Container Store).
Tasty, inexpensive, home made (more or less) and it doesn't leave people with junk cluttering up their homes!)
Yay!

Here's the final product. This is a YARD GNOME but KNOT a gnome.
The man child did well painting it - the goat looks dirty - like they usually are. It is made of 2- 6" channel welded back to back, 3/8" plate little mountain steps and the goat is 3/8" plate too. It is driven into the ground as 2- 1/2" x 12" rebar are welded to the bottom. It is 18" tall from the bottom of the rebar to the top of the goat. It weighs about 20 pounds.
The artist was me the producer was a welder at Knight's Quality Welding (notice the perfect laser cuts and eye hole and he added a 3D ear on the one side) and Lander (16) painted it.
The wife is very pleased.
We have a viking in the yard too. I'm thinking about a badger next - or an owl.
