I'm in an argumentative mood this morning...
Flight is the process by which any object achieves sustained movement either through the air (or movement beyond earth's atmosphere, in the case of spaceflight) by aerodynamically generating lift, propulsive thrust or aerostatically using buoyancy. From Wikipedia...
but I'd generalize it:
Flight is the process by which any object achieves sustained movement through a fluid by dynamically generating lift, propulsive thrust or statically using buoyancy.
in which case Penguins fly...
in my opinion, opening up the definition of flight to include space travel is totally stupid... it's done, but I suspect the motives.

and a sail boat on a broad reach?
I know, it would be called "sailing"
what do flying, sailing and swimming all have in common?

Isn't there a difference between propulsion and lift? I think of flight as including lift.

Its antarctica. Its upside down down there, which is why penguins can fly. Just look at a globe, then you will understand.
I still don't understand why they don't walk around on their heads down there.
