I just got it - man, I been slumming it for 34 years. Total dirtbag. I only made over 20K once since I was 14, and never broke 30k.

But I sure skied/boarded/climbed a lot!

I guess not all compensations are monetary - that's my story, and I'm sticking to it!

Mr. E, Don't believe the sheee they mail you, I did once but...it's a a bunch of bogus expletive. My hub worked since he was 14 and as a professional for 30 plus years. I went to check out the benefits after he died. If I make more than 13,000 a year you get Nadda. (It would be a challenge to live on $13,000 a year...maybe ?)

I would mayhap cry if I told you how much money they took from his pay check over his lifetime. Nice yo govermental leeches. Just let us keep the $ and let us take care of ourselves. IMHO

Way to go!

I never had the guts to not make a lot of money. May sound weird but it's true.

I like that right there.

On the other side of the equation, I never had the guts to commit to anything but joy, and that never equated to work, in my case...

Dan committed to Adventure and Joy ... just happened to make money while he did it. Why should Mrs. Sam rob ya. Many of our patients don't work at all. Free drugs, housing and food. Why bust your butt? Let Mrs. Sam support you. IMHO

Can someone who is truly slumming do that much climbing/traveling while maintaining a Bonsai in their van?

I think it's one of those road less taken, kind of deals. Even if many of us will have to work until we're 104...

"Just let us keep the $ and let us take care of ourselves. IMHO"

And then the people who weren't well paid professionals for 30 years, or lost their savings when their small business went bankrupt, or lost pensions when their employer went bankrupt, or were unsophisticated and swindled by "investment advisors", or who had no discipline to save would be robbing you in the streets to survive.

Maybe you'd prefer that. And maybe you'd prefer that 98 year old grandma who outlived her savings was reduced to eating out of the garbage can and sleeping in a cardboard box.

It's a social insurance program that helps not only those who are drawing it, but society as a whole.

Lynn Leichtfuss,
I am sorry for your loss. I know it it is painful... Forever.

Mrs. Sam does not provide a life that would be considered suitable to myself or MisterE.

I expect MisterE has experienced more than the suckeling of the teet from Mrs Sam would provide.

I know I do, and will live, a different lifestyle than even good old Mister "O" can provide.

Social Security Insurance is not a retirement program it is insurance.

Insurance - a practice or arrangement by which a company or government agency provides a guarantee of compensation for specified loss, damage, illness, or death in return for payment of a premium.

I have paid many a premium and in all likelihood will not see anything when I retire. Not bothered by this in the least bit as that is insurance - a necessary evil.

So Scared, we had a death.... contributed 6 figures to Who ? and get nada....go figure. Social Security....bwhahaha. Scared, You pay $ and are not bothered if you get nothing in return. I wish we could all be such philanthropists, but I have bills to pay.
Will your business or any other out there forgive my debt. Just give me the money paid to Mrs. Sam so I can pay the debt.

It's what you do that counts.

What would Joseph Campbell advise?

Well, I don't know if you Mr. E, who I totally like and respect and met at the Facelift and Jaybro who I also met and like and respect (and LOVE the jacket of many colors....) are addressing me but I'm fine. I love life and I think that youse at the Lift and Nose Events can tell that.

Lynnie just does not like to be robbed...and she has been. She will have to work even harder to provide for the non workers while trying to end the work cycle at some point.

And Yo, I don't at all mind paying for the people that worked hard and got a bad break. But trust me dudes, and you know I do not lie. I have worked for 20 years with healthy fine people that are lazy DA and know how to work the system.

But it is to their loss. They have a HUGE NADA to show for their lives and their children are only replicating their example.

But all is well on the planet because we had a day to experience and the people we love and the Taco. All the rest...hey it's up for "De BaiT". Love you all ....Lynnie

I think we're all kind of saying the same thing. There's always a house note due, but accentuate the the good stuff, even while we sing the blues. more or less.

Taxes always seem onerous. On the other hand; I've been in the situation where we paid more in Taxes than I currently gross as a Ca Public school teacher, and I've had years as an adult that there was no reason to file. It really does work out, especially when I take a view beyond my own situation. It was always how the other parts of life were spent that really mattered.
