as a twice a week lurker I ask, can you post a link or tell me the name of the thread you mention please? I'm a rookie here and wouldn't mind reading the details/reasons it won't open.

Not a chance. It will most likely be clear, enough, but no way it will be open.

Here is the thread you're looking for...
Bottom line is that it really has nothing to do with snow levels at this point. NPS is simply not going to open it again until spring. Kinda not seeing the asphalt you're referring to anyway.

Jim- last I heard there was no official winter closure, but it doesn't appear that there is any effort plow the road, so in a way there is an official winter closure.
What they'll likely do, is wait until the next storm cycle comes in and then officially close the road for the winter.
I'll check on it though.

More weather and snow coming in mid-late next week... Again, it's not opening until spring.

IT just ain't gonna happen. What does "the reason" do for you other than cause an increased downward spiral?

Hey, it ain't that far to walk, one of the employees at TPR showed up for work from the Valley this spring by walking over the snow at night in tennis shoes with baggies on his feet.
