The 118 is closed again. Northridge smells like smoke as the sky darkens over my house. The power keeps going on and off while I am thinking to myself that this is nothing compared to what is going on in the front lines.

I am wishing everyone safe.

Love,
AF

We are in a safe location.
One of the roommates just evacuated his girlfriend and brought her stuff here. Plus my high school is presently being used as a shelter. I am sure to hear some interesting stories on Monday.

I am just having a hard time breathing because of smoke and my allergies with the Santa Ana winds.

It seems they have been pulling the big helicopters out of Santa Barbara during the afternoon. For a good part of the time there was just "Orange 738" and even that one is gone now. It was making a pass every few minutes. Working like crazy.

I expect you will be seeing 738 down there tomorrow. Wave if you see him. He is a really big one! You should have a red and gray big one working already.

Hang in there and our best. The big air drops turned it around in SB.

Last Year end of October, fire by my home in Valley Center, CA

This morning playing tennis huge black plume went up about 2 miles away. Within minutes the spotter plane was there and within 20 minutes 3 bombers were circling with retardent to drop.

We've had 2 Devastating fires in 4 years. Killing young and old and taking many homes. Looks like they are now prepared to deal with these Fires before they reach max killer velocity.

Ekat, my bro-in-law and wife live in Villa Park nearby. They are ready to fight. They feel the Santa Ana winds may abate tonight.

Prayers with all that have lost loved ones and homes.....also with those threatened. Safety for all those that are fighting the beast. Sincerely, Lynne

I live in Venice and the entire sky is overcast (it's dusk now) and ash is falling like mad.

Very sorry for all those who lost homes and who are displaced.

Bump!
Many thanks to the firefighters who are out there tonight preventing this whole area from going up in flames.
Deepest feelings for those being effected and are dealing with loss. I am praying tonight that there are no more injuries or fatalities.

Jingy,
Do bring your tank to the beach. We can go diving! Ron spotted a school of dogfish off of Deer Creek, it could be fun!

About to take the kids down to Orange County this afternoon to spend an overnight at Grandma's in Villa Park. She calls and sez the 57 in Brea is closed because of a big fire (that's my usual route down there). Driving the 210 in Monrovia you can see the ginormous black plume coming from the Yorba Linda area. I take the 605 to the five and skirt the trouble. Traffic is heavy but moving. By the time I got to Ball Rd. and Disneyland, we'd passed under the smoke stream. Drove back east toward Villa Park which is right next to Anaheim Hills and Yorba Linda. Still clear skies here, but giant black smoke a few miles away. We are just positioned with the wind in the right direction to be ok.

Last year we could see the Santiago fire from Grandma's house.

A friend of Grandma's (and her dog) evacuated from Anaheim Hills and is staying with us tonight.

Huge thanks to all those firefighters and police and others who are out working all these fires. These are huge hearted folk. Lion hearted.

We are pulling for all those in close proximity to the fires.

Lynne: you have relatives in Villa Park? What a small world! Villa Park is a small town in the midst of Orange County in its own strange way.

Fletch, my husbands family were one of the first to settle Villa Park @ 70 plus years ago. They also owned the Orange Tin Shop right in the "downtown circle" in the city of Orange. The guy that owns the pharmacy on "the circle" is a dear Friend.

Cheers Fletcher. No wonder we had the connection vibes. Lynnie

My back door doesn't seal well, and faces the 118. I've been sweeping piles of ash out of my laundry room, and it stinks worse than the fire that got Stony even though it's a little farther away. Probably all the artificial crap in the houses that was burning.

Here in SB they have left Orange 736(Erickson's) as insurance. Still working at a furious rate so I imagine that helicopter will soon not be needed.

Thanks to the map posted on the other thread it appears the fire got to within a little over a mile from us. And when I looked up hill from my friend's house and saw red, I was looking at a half dozen nearby houses going up. The fire had crested on the ridge along the road I had used to get in. It seems the only house you want to build in Sycamore Canyon is one made entirely of concrete and with a copper roof. A couple of those did very well.

Here in OC, the smoke is not as big (from my vantage point here in Villa Park). But the wind is kicking up pretty strong this morning... :-( That hot dry wind is not a good feeling right now. Mid to upper 90's today. Looks like a cooling trend as the week progresses. Let's hope for that and for all the good folk affected by the fires.

Our house in Northridge stinks too. I want to vacuum the place but my roommates work odd schedules. I don't want to wake the poor guys, even though they won't complain. (I have really nice roommates.) "I must wait for the afternoon for all of us to be up."

Times like this is when I need to focus on remembering their needs. Times like this is when I need to get out of the house before my cleaning tendencies get me in trouble.

See ya guys later!

My thoughts and hopes are with all of those affected
by the fires. Let's hope they don't find many bodies
in the trailer park that burned near LA.
