Everybody finds inspiration and life in the valley, but Chongo lived it. Werner and the rest of the suits bought into the system and had to work. They could not stand the site of Chongo's life living it up in the valley with those young energetic and life-filled climbers as they once were. (this is a joke :-) )

-enjoy your suit, keep it ironed or else you may find yourself with the BOOT!

Pray that you will never become so limp-wristed as to condemn a true original, which is what Chongo is.

As the old men who’s visions are younger than the first day of the universe say .........

Stumbling in your fog of delusion you’ve come across the shallow stagnate pool of knowledge and reason that you have mistaken for the deep well of truth. You have simply jumped in head first and quickly broken your head.

This is why you’ve chosen to hide behind the screen name “Blinks”
• To look through half-closed eyes
• To waver or back down, as in a contest of wills

You have no power to drive away this mist ....

I remember meeting the Chongo Brothers (yes, "brothers") way back in 1985 or so in Joshua Tree (it was Chongo and two other guys who all just lived there and hung around--not even sure if they even climbed back then, or were even true brothers). I couldn't beleive they were getting away with it then, at least climbers looked like they had a purpose there in Josh.

Then they disappeared for a while, then when Chongo showed up in the Valley and began to live for years and years, I again couldn't believe it. Joshua Tree was one thing, but the Valley? And for so long while being super high profile, with his gear on El Cap for months and years and stuff like that.

But you know, instead of lamenting the passing of an era, it's probably better to spend that energy appreciating the time that was. There was a little bit of Chango in all of us, it seems. Even you, Klaus!

Too bad for him he pushed it to the limit and now has to pay the man.

However you feel about it, the different ones are the ones we remember. The stuff of legends. They give us something to think and talk about and sometimes make us uncomfortable. They passed through and left sign. Whatever. Heroes, oddballs, or saints. They do make life a little more interesting and sometimes bring great change.

Yeah deuce - you just reminded me of the Chongo brothers (back in a JT day) who made some really excellent climbing shoes. There was a bunch of us who bought into their boots - great price, and comparable performance to Boreal's Fire. Never did get a chance to bump into Chongo in hist Yosemite days - what with all the don't do this and sign for that rules and regs going down - no wonder I'm not much for climbing up in Yosemite these days. There was a time, when the climbing community was a little more open and free wheelin - the Chongo brothers were born outta that era gone bye bye. Everywhere I go, I'm reminded in what I see just how easy it is to become home-less either by joice or by circumstance.

Now that there's a magistrate has been installed in Yosemite, IMHO, it will be enough for Chongo to just get scolded - some of that is for all of us to bear. But jail and fines? hmmmmmmmmm, LET IT GO!

cheers...

Bet Chongo would have never been evicted if he had money himself or big money behind him.

It's rare that someone with big money behind them finds themself in Chongo's predicament.

I love the Chongo boys. I have happily enabled Chuck and his kind for many years. I have drank many beers with Chuck, worn his clothing line, bought his book. I remember watching him drink bong water back in '90 around a warm fire up on Intersection Rock (before 'the man' took away the fun). His reaction was classic. Never flinched.
But there are lines in the sand and we all know about them.
Chongo boys, I am sorry your days of wine & women are over. At least in the Valley. I am truly sorry. Life is too short to end up in the tool shed. But like we have always said to you, my home is your home. You are never a stranger.

The "stagnate pool of knowledge and reason" might show you that my screen name is not "Blinks", and among other things... free you from the "fog of delusion" generated from overindulgence in pseudo-spiritual tripe, a common malady among authorities these days.

Blinks, Blanks, or Blunks. If it was me, I would tend to forgive a typo by one who might be called on to risk his ass to haul my old cornbread ass off'n some windblown diving board into the abyss.

Nothing to forgive, as I took no offense. It's just his whole analogy was based on a misreading of my screen name. Seeing what we want to see? I found it funny and typical of those in authority.

Hey Binks. Werner admonished me for shooting bears and I was so taken with his philosophy, I vowed never to shoot any more of the mischievous critters. The fact that I don't get around well enough anymore to chase bears didn't enter into the argument. I think.

If you think I had anything to do with Chongo you're a complete idiot. I'm not even a park ranger to begin with. You better talk to Chongo about this before you start up your idiotic missinformed speculations.

I have been and presently always been completely out of the loop as far as Chongo's predicament with NPS.

Now go chew on it, idiotic chump.

This is funny!
Slagging off Werner because he figured out he could stay in the Valley by rescuing other climbers?! You gotta be kidding. Has Chongo rescued anyone? And warning people in a "Safety Meeting" that a ranger is coming doesn't count.

Ahh, Werner. You are such an eloquent man of choice words. Well done. And Tom B.-too cool. In retrospect of our 30+ years of loitering around the Valley, we have to back both of them in this argument. Chuck knows the rules. The Valley is not too hard to figure out. Most get around just fine. Unless you are a window washer, well then, well, we don't want to go there......and anyone who knows us ,also knows we have had the occasion to be on the wrong side of Werners good nature. Thankfully, he has a forgiving disposition too.

Yet you posted:

"There’s a system here in place whether we like it or not to protect this resource, Yosemite Nat. Park. We continually told him to get a job or something to become legit. He refused in distaste."

Sure sounds like you at least approved of it, even if you had no hand in it. Do you really think Chongo threatened Yosemite Nat. Park?

No offense intended Werner, but I found such a statement from you a bit disappointing, and ignoring of Chongo's positive legacy, and within that -a tacit disapproval of a whole segment of the climbing community.

I will definitely talk with Chongo when I again have the chance.
