I'm looking for a copy of a Joshua Tree documentary I saw on television (Discovery Channel?) sometime around 1990.

There was a lot of footage of bouldering including a kid who had been working on Peabrain for a whole winter and finally got it. Also I seem to remember Pink Floyd music accompanying many of the scenes. A period piece about living in the monument back in the 80's.

Any info appreciated, but I'm willing to buy or trade for an actual copy. thanks,

Brett

Hey Brett,

I am pretty sure I have a VHS copy of that film. The "kid" working on Pea brain was Rich Chongo. He and his brother spent a lot of time between here and Idyllwild during that time. Also featured was the "Scrutinizer" and some great bouldering by Mike Paul and Paul Bourne. The "Scrutinizer" was quite a guy. I have so many stories about him and the Chongo brothers from that period.

Anyway, I will look for the tape, but finding someone to copy it here in town might be a trick. I am not even sure my VCR works anymore.

Hey Tan;
I remember the Scrutinizer.
John Haywood or Hayword was his name.
He lived on mush, and I believe, babyfood.
You always knew when he was around if his Green capri was in Hidden Valley. He even had a climb named after him, "Pinch a smelly scrutinizer". He sure was a good climber though.
I don't believe I ever saw him lead anything, but he sure could follow.

Rich and Dave (Chongo) Tucker were good friends of mine and I did a lot of climbing with them at the Monument, and Tahquitz.
They even had their own business in the Monument resoling shoes
with Chongo Rubber. do you remember when Dave chongo had that NASTY fall and rackedup his ankle so bad he had to have surgery to fix it?
I haven't seen the Chongo Brothers since "91" and wonder what ever happened to them.
I even tried emailing Chuck Chongo, recently, asking about them,
but I never got a reply back. I guess Chuck is in his own little world and can't be bothered with petty stuff like that :)

Paul Borne; We used to call him Mr. Lizard.
Also, a pretty good Guitar player.
We used to sit up in Space Station #9 or 27, Paul on Guitar and me on Harmonica, and smoking the Hippy Lettuce, playing for the whole campground.

Mike Paul, Watusi, What a great guy. We are, and always be friends. The STUMP BROTHERS. Watusi will know what I am talking about.

I sure MISS the GOOD OLD DAYS out at the Monument!!!

I'm still looking for this. If someone is willing to loan me a copy, I'll transfer it to DVD for you. Also willing to post to Youtube etc, whatever, just need to get my hands on a copy.
