Jstan posted on Aug. 19 with regards to Fannie and Freddie’s upcoming $223 billion in debt refinancing:
“September 30 apparently will be a turning point in the credit market storm brought us by our poor corporate practices. If there is a federal bailout some or all holders of equities in these corporations may end up holding nothing. Nationwide some $400 billion has reportedly been written off already and reports of the amount remaining to be written off vary widely. But $223 billion in one chunk is substantial. Behind that is $1.7 trillion of unsecured debt in just these two corporations.
As might be expected, foreign interest in supporting us has grown thin.
October may be an interesting month. “

Was McCain Doomed to Lose?
Opinion Divided on Whether McCain Could Overcome Bush Legacy and Economic Turmoil
By JOEL SIEGEL
Nov. 5, 2008 —
A collapsing economy, an unpopular president and an opponent who became a phenomenon turned John McCain's candidacy into a long shot and then a series of campaign blunders ended whatever chance he had of defeating Barack Obama, observers say……..
The beginning of the end may have come Sept. 15, when McCain declared, "The fundamentals of our economy are strong."……..
"He actually was making a pretty good race of it until late September. The economy just became too much to overcome. You can point to tactical mistakes the campaign made. But when Wall Street collapsed, it collapsed right on top of John McCain."…….
More than six in 10 voters called the economy their No. 1 issue; Iraq was a distant second, a concern of just one in 10 voters.
"McCain needed to run a campaign that emphasized the importance of national security, in leading the war on terror," Rothenberg said. "Instead, the last month of the election was all about the economy."……..

And we are hearing more and more that Obama has changed how elections will be financed; another thing that was obvious on the internet.

What is my point?
We all enjoy ST. ST and all the other parts of the internet provide an entirely new way to discover how others see the world and to explore what the future will be like.
It is an entirely new way to learn.
Our minds need only be open.

But, you gotta agree that such an open arena for communication is invaluable.

Sadly, as with most other forms of communication, there is sometimes a great deal of smoke and heat on the internet, and SuperTopo, without any accompanying light.
