The time when JOSHUA TREE really ROCKS for me
is in the Summer months when hardly any people are there.

The MONUMENT has always been my, "Home away from Home",
for the last 50 years.
And that will always be the case till even after I die!
I've even requested that my ashes be scattered in the
Monument.

Dwain

EDIT: Maybe I can get Locker to mix my ashes in with his chalk
So I can be spread all over the rocks also. :)

I love Jtree. Only been there twice and I didn't find any of the good routes though. Last time I decided to check out Mongolia. Found somebody's route off to the left side. you have to scramble up about half way then there is a nice start where you pull out and up to get onto the face of a large boulder then two bolts and a run out finish to the top. I climbed back down and was taking a small chimney up the right side with my friends. I felt pumpy so I started to pull a roof on a boulder at the top of the chimney and the dang thing rolled on me. I held on to it with one hand as it rolled and got out of the way just in time. With a loud boom it hit where I was previously standing then lodged itself in the middle of the chimney. Kinda freaked me out about climbing in Jtree.

It was a fabulous day at the Park today;....Tucker gets out his wallet to tip me after I did a heroic lead, but I refuse any money for just doing my job;........(Actually, he wanted me to go to town for more beer...........)

Beer, bolts....where's the babes?...(Swammi with no leg loops...what?....)

I probably have only been to j-tree about a half dozen times and each trip was to say the least , memorable. One time, it even snowed, but we could still climb an hour after it stopped. Other times were always strange, but I always thought it was just me. Now, I'm sure. It's definitely a magic place, but you guys that live down there, well, you can speak for yourselves.I couldn't take the heat. I like all the rain we get up here.

The climbing in J-tree this summer has been superb and fantastically lonesome. It seems like your own private park until Oct rolls around... If you're ever in the area during the summer and think it's too hot to climb, just look for a shady crag (tons of them) or do some moonlight climbing.
looking sketchy there...
